What you’ll do:
Architect thermal management and mitigation strategies for a new class of consumer device
Partner with key internal stakeholders to assess the system impact of thermal predictions and inform product architecture, product roadmap, and technical roadmap
Model transient and steady‑state thermal behaviors; refine the model and design through validation and correlation with real‑world performance throughout development
Co‑develop scalable thermal designs with engineering and operations partners, selecting materials, TIMs, and heat spreaders to achieve system requirements
Partner with product, software, and hardware teams to architect, design, and implement system‑level power and thermal throttling strategies to support product vision
Specify and define boundary conditions and frameworks to predict system performance
Develop and drive design validation, qualification, reliability, and compliance for Spectacles thermal components
Coordinate internal, external, and vendor partner resources to achieve product goals
Monitor thermal, consumer electronic, and augmented reality industry best practices, trends, and state of the art to inform the product roadmap
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong understanding of passive thermal mitigation strategies leveraged in consumer electronics including spreaders, heat pipes, and vapor chambers
Experience in thermal analysis and thermal measurement
Experience with FloEFD, FloTherm, FlowSimulation and/or ANSYS Icepak
Experience with reduced‑order modeling and analytical approaches
Familiarity with CAD tools such as NX, SolidWorks, and/or Creo
Experience scaling thermal designs for mass production, including characterizing, validating, and measuring designs’ performance across populations and variance
Strong communication skills and experience sharing results with team members and leadership
Minimum Qualifications
MS or PhD in physics, materials science, or mechanical engineering with emphasis in heat transfer and fluid dynamics
11+ years of relevant experience in thermal simulation, measurement, validation, and correlation
Demonstrated experience delivering thermal solutions in consumer electronics products
Ability to travel up to 20%
Preferred Qualifications
11+ years of experience developing thermal strategies in consumer electronics at scale
Demonstrated experience partnering with Asia‑based manufacturers and 3rd parties
Experience designing, modeling, and validating thermal performance for wearable devices
Experience modeling and managing battery thermal performance
Knowledge of scripting languages (Python, etc.)
Hands‑on experience and demonstrated ability in engineering tools and workflows: CAD (NX, SolidWorks, Creo), PCB layout (Allegro, Altium)
Experience with executive‑level presentations and reporting

Compensation In the United States, work locations are assigned a pay zone which determines the salary range for the position. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job‑related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The starting pay may be negotiable within the salary range for the position. These pay zones may be modified in the future.
Zone A (CA, WA, NYC): The base salary range for this position is $229,000–$343,000 annually.
Zone B: The base salary range for this position is $218,000–$326,000 annually.
Zone C: The base salary range for this position is $195,000–$292,000 annually.
This position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.
