Company Overview
Hybron is a defense technology startup pioneering a new manufacturing process for fiber‑reinforced polymer composites that enables complex parts to be produced with greater strength, lower cost, and at 10‑100x the speed of traditional methods. We were backed by the Northrop Grumman Technology Accelerator and have successfully developed composite compressor blades tested in a fighter jet engine. Our current focus is applying our proprietary process to artillery shells, drone airframes, and gas turbine component production.
About the Role
This is a full‑time, in‑person role at our El Segundo facility. As the Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will design and validate tooling, fixtures, and mechanical subsystems that enable reliable automated composites manufacturing. You will see your designs through from concept to build, turn requirements into clean CAD, run quick checks on strength and tolerance, work with machinists and technicians to iterate, and close the loop with test data. Your work will remove bottlenecks and raise production rate and quality.
Responsibilities
Design and validate tooling, fixtures, and mechanical subsystems for automated composites manufacturing. Convert requirements into clean CAD and run quick strength and tolerance checks. Collaborate with machinists, technicians, and operators to iterate and test designs through prototype to production. Remove bottlenecks and improve production rate and quality.
Qualifications
Must be a U.S. Person pursuant to EAR and ITAR definitions Strong CAD proficiency for part, assembly, and drawing creation with GD&T Onshape experience is a plus Hands‑on fixture and tooling design for composites or precision manufacturing Tolerance stack‑ups, material and fastener selection, and basic FEA for sanity checks Comfortable on the floor, measuring, testing, and iterating with machinists and operators Experience taking designs from prototype to production, with DFM and DFA in mind Strong Collaboration and Communication skills Agile team and flexibility are paramount Ability to evaluate and select suppliers based on capabilities, cost, quality, and delivery performance Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or related field; 1+ years in mechanical design and fabrication
Nice to Have
Composite manufacturing and design experience CNC or Manual machining experience Electrical Experience within mechanical subsystems Own end‑to‑end designs for key tooling families and production hardware Stand up drawing standards, BOM discipline, and revision control across programs Introduce design templates and libraries to speed repeat builds and variants Extend into test fixture design, model‑to‑test correlation, and reliability improvements
Benefits
Stock options Paid time off 401K (1:1 employer match up to 4% of salary)
Location
