Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) Programmer
Reports to:
Plant Manager or Superintendent

Full‑Time, Salary, Monday‑Friday, First Shift, Saturdays as needed
Job Purpose Summary
Develop programs to control machinery for the processing of parts by automatic and semi‑automatic machine tools by converting project and customer specifications into functional machine code.
Utilize software systems (CAD/CAM) for the development, utilization, storage and retrieval of machine code programs.
Skill Requirements
Knowledge of Sheet Metal Layout and Flat Pattern Creation, with forming development capabilities.
Possess ability to layout bend lines for the press department and identify aids for welding processes.
Possess ability to think logically and realize and identify shortcuts to the production process.
Knowledge of AutoCAD or other CAD/CAM software to efficiently create, dimension and produce drawings.
Possess ability to keep up to date and aware of all improvements to the most current version of the CAD/CAM software as each new release provides shortcuts and improvements to reduce errors and improve efficiency.
Knowledge of SigmaNEST, Tru-Topps, or other CAM software to nest parts and create CNC code.
Most post processors that create CNC code use comma delimited files for the creation of this code.
It is important to be efficient and have an understanding of editing these files they can cause machines to malfunction or be damaged.
Knowledge of Excel or other spreadsheet software to configure and edit machine code settings.
Knowledge of machine code is important to keep machines from sitting idle while waiting for programs to be changed.
These codes can be fixed in a text editor “on the fly” to keep machines operating efficiently.
Knowledge of Saving, Editing, Copying, paper and electronic Documents for File retention and maintenance of the company’s proprietary information.
