Job Summary Full‑time Nuclear Medicine Technologist position. Shift structure: five 8‑hour shifts or four 10‑hour shifts with rotating on‑call; weekend shifts also available.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Assay, record, prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals.
Operate SPECT, SPECT/CT and PET/CT imaging and radiation detection equipment to obtain diagnostic images; ensure patient preparation, positioning, immobilization and selection of proper imaging/data processing techniques.
Perform CT imaging for attenuation correction or diagnostic CT as ordered in conjunction with SPECT and PET exams and as needed in the CT Division.
Explain exam to patient considering physical and emotional needs, maintaining patient confidentiality and professional conduct.
Maintain effective working relations and communication with departmental and other hospital personnel.
Calibrate and verify operation of all equipment during the workday, notify appropriate personnel of malfunctions and perform quality control procedures.
Complete paperwork, RIS and Epic functions as necessary for each patient exam.
Remain up‑to‑date on developments and trends in imaging techniques, procedures and equipment; participate in education programs and meet state requirements for continuing education credits.
Supervise and teach Nuclear Medicine Technology students within the department.
Prepare equipment, room, and supplies for each patient and regular daily use; stock supplies as needed.
Assay, record, and dispose of radioactive waste and contamination.
Assume responsibility for on‑call coverage and remain flexible for all shift coverage and overtime as necessary.
Acknowledge and participate in research studies, quality assurance, and quality improvement projects carried out in the department.
Perform all other duties as directed.
Qualifications
Graduate of an approved Nuclear Medicine Technology school.
Valid Massachusetts license as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
Registered or eligible for certification by ARRT‑N or NMTCB; must obtain and maintain certification within one year of employment start.
Diagnostic CT certification required within one year of hire date.
Required Skills and Competencies
Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients under physical and/or emotional stress.
Analytical abilities to acquire and utilize knowledge of radiation detection, imaging and computer processing techniques, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
Flexibility and willingness to adapt to frequent interruptions, roles, work assignments, and patient emergencies.
Positive attitude and a professional appearance.
Physical capability to lift linens, supplies, patients and operate equipment.
Working understanding of Radiant, Cupid and Epic applications.
Aware of department hazards and adhere to safety standards set by Brigham & Women’s Hospital and regulatory agencies.
