Position Overview The Ontology and Data Modeling Manager at Capital One plays a crucial role in shaping our data strategy by developing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise ontologies. This position demands collaboration across various lines of business and functions to design domain ontologies that drive enterprise initiatives. In partnership with teams such as Technology and Machine Learning, the manager will integrate semantic technologies into our data products, ensuring our organization is on the cutting edge of data utilization. The ideal candidate will be a proactive advocate for semantic technology, demonstrating its value to stakeholders within Capital One. You will support the evolution of our semantic program, clearly communicating its benefits while aligning ontological practices with broader enterprise goals. Key Responsibilities Collaborate with enterprise governance teams to establish and enforce ontology standards for data consumers. Work closely with Data Product Managers and modelers to identify use cases and challenges related to data discovery. Align on vocabulary usage across data domains and design modeling solutions that fulfill consumer requirements. Maintain a scalable ontology that integrates vocabularies across various domains and data types. Core Competencies Expertise in modeling taxonomies and ontologies that improve data discovery and usability for consumers. Strong ability to partner across business, technical, and data science teams for implementing standardized vocabularies, metadata, and relationships. Capability to autonomously tackle complex issues and develop collaborative modeling frameworks. Balanced decision-making skills in modeling design that accommodates standardization and user customization. Competence in developing and implementing ontologies in cooperation with stakeholders from data management, product management, and machine learning. Analytical skills for deploying knowledge organization strategies utilizing tools for semantic enrichment. Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in information science, computer science, engineering, library science, ontology, semantics, or a related field. Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a metadata-related field, including ontology, taxonomy, or computational linguistics. Experience with W3C standards, including linked data and ontologies (JSON, XML, RDF, RDFS, OWL, SKOS). Proficiency in ontology tools (e.g., Protégé, TopQuadrant) and SPARQL. Familiarity with SQL. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degrees (Master's or PhD) in relevant fields. Understanding of ontological development and controlled vocabularies for data management. Experience with graph databases and technologies. Basic knowledge of Python or R. Familiarity with JSON, OpenAPI/YAML, and AVRO. Understanding of Agile methodologies. The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this position are as follows: Cambridge, MA: $158,400 - $180,800 McLean, VA: $158,400 - $180,800 New York, NY: $172,800 - $197,200 Salary offers may vary based on location, and actual compensation will be outlined in the candidate's offer letter.
