Description Summary: The Senior Accountant is crucial in managing monthly general ledger journal entries within their designated accounting team, following Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The functional accounting teams include: Cash Accounting Fixed Assets Accounting Corporate Accounting Payroll Accounting Investments and Foundation Accounting Prepaid Asset, Deferred Revenue, and Notes Payable Accounting Inventory and Supplies Accounting Physician Guarantees and Physician Fees Accounting Purchased Services and Non-Patient Accounts Receivable Accounting Contract Labor and Utilities Accounting Joint Venture Accounting Intercompany Accounting, Allocations, and Eliminations Lease Accounting Technical Accounting Health Plan Accounting Physician Group Accounting Grant Accounting This role requires a solid understanding of US GAAP. The Senior Accountant must not only record journal entries accurately but also understand their purpose, assess their appropriateness, and articulate their impact on financial statements. They are responsible for ensuring relevant supporting documentation accompanies each journal entry and must evaluate the source of information critically, asking pertinent follow-up questions. Occasionally, they will need to develop estimates of current month activity based on financial analysis of past data. The Senior Accountant must also familiarize themselves with healthcare-specific accounting issues pertinent to their assigned area. While prior healthcare experience is preferred, it is not mandatory. Additionally, they will analyze variances between budgeted and actual performance for their assigned areas and present findings to accounting leads and managers for month-end reviews. Key responsibilities include: Completing monthly balance sheet account reconciliations related to their assigned functional area. Assisting other teams across the organization with inquiries related to their area of focus as needed. Collaborating with various teams to promptly resolve issues to everyone's satisfaction. Participating in special projects, including researching GL transactions and contributing to process improvement initiatives and year-end external audits. This role demands excellent written and verbal communication skills. Responsibilities: Align with the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders. Prepare month-end journal entries according to US GAAP, ensuring complete and accurate supporting documentation. Conduct variance analysis on assigned accounts against budget and trends, providing insights for month-end financial statements review. Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations. Assist various teams with information requests as necessary. Job Requirements: Education/Skills Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent is required. Experience 5 years of experience is required. Healthcare accounting experience is preferred. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications Candidates pursuing CPA licensure are preferred; support is available for those seeking licensing. Work Schedule: 5 Days - 8 Hours Work Type: Full Time
