Group Exercise Instructor – Pilates/Barre
YMCA of Greater Boston is hiring a Group Exercise Instructor – Pilates/Barre to lead engaging group classes in a Parkway YMCA setting.
Pay $35.00/hr – $45.00/hr

Position Summary Barre instructors that have the necessary training and certification from a qualified program. Instructors should have a strong sense of musicality and rhythm, plus the ability to choreograph and perform their own barre routines. The chief responsibility is to ensure that students learn and perform all exercises safely. While serving as a positive role model, they must communicate effectively in order to deliver quality instruction and feedback that responds to the needs and goals of the class. Instructors should also possess good customer service skills, as well as punctuality and flexibility with one's work environment or schedule. Instructors work in a group setting, leading a class through exercise routines that are performed at a ballet barre and choreographed to music. Other duties can include choreographing new or alternative routines, maintaining studio equipment, engaging members, and assisting with Health and Wellness events.
Key Responsibilities
Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
Asks and answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being.
Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
Celebrate the achievements of program participants related to program or personal goals, mastering specific skills or overall health and well-being.
Keep accurate class attendance records.
Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Understand the relationship of the public to the association, of staff to volunteer, and of staff to staff, and be able to effectively enhance and cultivate those relationships.
Ability to interpret, carry out and implement into classes/programs, the mission and goals of the YMCA.
Work as an integral member of a staff team.
Ability to communicate effectively with adults, youth, teens, seniors and special populations.
Degree in exercise Science or Physical Education preferred.
A minimum of 1-2 years of experience teaching Barre preferred.
