Role Overview BEPC, Inc. is seeking a

Systems Engineer

to join our client’s innovative team in developing nanopore‑based sequencing technology. This pioneering work is revolutionizing clinical genetic testing by making it faster, easier, and more affordable.

The Systems Engineer will contribute to the design, execution, and analysis of experiments supporting the development of a single‑molecule DNA sequencing platform. This individual will work closely with engineers and scientists across multiple disciplines—systems, biochemistry, electrochemistry, and materials science—to advance next‑generation sequencing technologies.

Key Responsibilities

Experimental Design & Execution : Plan, design, and conduct laboratory experiments focused on sequencing system performance and process optimization.

System Integration : Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (mechanical, electrical, and software engineers) to integrate and validate sequencing platform subsystems.

Data Analysis & Reporting : Analyze experimental results and sequencing data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for system improvement.

Process Optimization : Develop and refine microfluidic device processes, evaluate electrochemical and surface chemistry interactions, and propose performance enhancements.

Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis : Identify and resolve technical issues related to instruments, devices, reagents, and software.

Instrumentation Support : Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot system hardware and automation tools to ensure consistent and reliable operation.

Statistical Methods : Apply design of experiments (DOE), process control, and statistical data analysis techniques using tools like JMP or Python.

Documentation & Communication : Maintain precise electronic lab notebooks and prepare clear, actionable technical reports.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration : Coordinate with scientists, engineers, and project managers to align technical results with product development goals.

Continuous Improvement : Drive innovation through proposing design improvements, automation strategies, and new methodologies for testing and validation.

Knowledge Sharing : Train and mentor junior engineers and lab technicians in system operation and analysis methods.

Safety & Compliance : Ensure adherence to laboratory safety and documentation standards.

Presentation of Findings : Prepare and deliver technical presentations summarizing results, performance metrics, and future plans to stakeholders.

Qualifications

Education : B.S. in Bioengineering, Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, Statistics, or a related field.

Experience : 2 – 5 years of relevant industry experience (2+ years preferred).

Background in molecular biology, biochemistry, or materials science.

Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Strong attention to detail with consistent record‑keeping practices.

Preferred Skills

Experience with Python for scripting or analysis.

Proficiency in JMP or other statistical tools.

Experience with DNA sequencing, microfluidics, or surface chemistry.

Familiarity with process monitoring, DOE, or automation techniques.

Work Arrangement Fully Onsite
