Laboratory Inventory Specialist

The Center for Aquaculture Technologies, a private aquaculture innovation and research company, is seeking a Laboratory Inventory Specialist to assist development, optimization, and implementation of next generation sequencing services in the Genotyping lab in San Diego, CA.
Responsibilities
Maintain organized supply storage, inventory and records
Seek out and maintain vendor relationships to find best priced supplies
Monitor pricing on all laboratory supplies / vendors
Perform and maintain monthly inventory checks and audits
Collaborate with lab staff and vendors to ensure timely restocking and accurate documentation
Purchase, receive and catalog supplies
Test alternative products to find best priced supplies that fulfill laboratory needs
Understand and participate in laboratory safety protocols and compliance log upkeep in coordination with laboratory management
Maintain sample inventory, storage and records
Manage requests to search for and ship client projects
Prepare supplies and kits for clients
Ship supplies to clients
Participate in Sample Handling- Tissue Dissection, DNA extraction, Genotyping
Train staff in inventory procedures and tissue sampling techniques
Participate in troubleshooting to improve processes and data consistency and quality
Participate in quality control by establishing and maintaining protocols together with laboratory manager.
Assist Laboratory manager in developing and deploying appropriate automation to aid processing and improve throughput on genotyping platforms
Collaborate with Research Technicians on training and troubleshooting processes; and participate in laboratory upkeep including equipment maintenance, cleaning and maintaining laboratory area.
Key Qualifications
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, Life Science and / or a related field is preferred.
Possesses basic laboratory skills and follows directions easily.
Molecular Biology Laboratory experience is preferred.
Good computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office is required.
Ability to generate and interpret inventory reports, forecast supply needs, and reconcile discrepancies.
Must be able to communicate effectively in both group and one on one settings.
Must be organized, detail oriented and meticulous in following set protocols and record keeping.
Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, production environment.
Excellent English (both verbal and written) is required.
