Summary: The Accountant 2, Special Revenue will do accounting work of an advanced nature in maintaining the Finance accounting system for Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS).

SUPERVISORY EXPECTATIONS: Manage assigned clerical staff and subordinate professional personnel in one or more sections of the department. Take responsibility for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of assigned teams. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district's policies and applicable state and federal laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Responsibilities: • Coordinates and directs the accounting activities in various sections with the department. • Supervises employees engaged in the maintenance of financial records and ongoing complex financial records. • Prepares, maintains, and corrects SNS district budgets. • Displays considerable initiative and independence in judgment in developing and carrying out work assignments. • Plans and directs fiscal activities for a large department with a high degree of decentralization. • Develops and establishes clerical and fiscal procedures for accounting and post-auditing records. • Evaluates and monitors compliance of practices and procedures with School Board policies and procedures, federal and state laws, various state agencies, and union agreements. • Makes disbursements, audits claims, including payrolls. • Maintains general control accounts, audits receipts and disbursements of sections with the department. • Plans, directs, and supervises professional and clerical employees in the maintenance of accounts. • Performs any other duties as assigned.

Experience: Two years of increasingly responsible experience in government accounting, finance or business (accounting, finance, bookkeeping, Student Information System data processing, internal auditing, etc.) Business experience may substitute for college course work on the basis of two years of experience for each year of required college course work. Master's Degree may be substituted for two years of the experience requirement.

Language Skills: Reads and interprets general business and professional journals, technical procedures, or regulations. Writes reports, correspondence, and manuals. Effectively presents and responds to questions from managers and the public.

Mathematical Skills: Calculates figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Applies concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability: Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills: Microsoft Office, district data systems

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical Activities: Standing, walking, sitting, handling, keyboarding, talking, and hearing.

Lifting Demands: Up to 10 pounds

Reaching Activities: Both dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead.

Environmental Conditions: Noise Intensity 3 moderate.
