Role Overview We are seeking an experienced

Database Administrator

to design, implement, maintain, and optimize database systems supporting critical business applications such as trading, risk management, reporting, and operations. The role involves working across

hybrid infrastructures

— primarily cloud (Azure, AWS) and on-premises environments — ensuring high availability, data integrity, and performance at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Database Management:

Administer, configure, and optimize SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and cloud-native databases across hybrid environments.

Resilience & Continuity:

Design and maintain high-availability and disaster recovery (DR) architectures (AlwaysOn, clustering, geo-redundancy) to ensure business continuity.

Real-Time Processing:

Support and enhance real-time data pipelines and replication processes for critical applications.

Performance & Monitoring:

Proactively monitor, tune, and troubleshoot database performance using observability and alerting tools.

Security & Compliance:

Enforce access controls, encryption, and data protection standards in collaboration with cybersecurity and compliance teams.

Collaboration:

Partner with infrastructure, application development, and DevOps teams to optimize database design, queries, and integrations.

Documentation:

Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, DR procedures, and operational standards.

Incident Response:

Contribute to incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.

Minimum 5 years of experience in database administration, ideally within complex or regulated environments (e.g., energy, financial services).

Advanced skills in SQL, T-SQL, PL/SQL, and experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL.

Proven experience with Azure database services (SQL Database, Managed Instance, Cosmos DB) and familiarity with AWS RDS or Aurora.

Strong understanding of resilience, replication, and real-time data architectures.

Exposure to ITSM, monitoring, and incident management tools.

Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified Database Administrator, Oracle Certified Professional, or AWS Database Specialty are a plus.

Strong analytical, communication, and troubleshooting abilities.

Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hybrid cloud environment.

Nice to Have

Experience supporting energy trading or financial systems (ETRM, market data, or analytics platforms).

Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified Database Administrator, Oracle Certified Professional, or AWS Database Specialty are a plus.

Knowledge of Python or PowerShell for automation and database scripting.

Familiarity with CI/CD integration and DevOps practices for database deployment.

Understanding of data governance, lineage, and compliance frameworks (SOX, NERC CIP, GDPR).

Experience working with containerized environments (Kubernetes, Docker) or Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Ansible).
