Mechanical Reliability Engineer
Position: Full-Time, Salaried (Exempt)
Location: Richmond, VA
The Mechanical Reliability Engineer will facilitate development of the facility and equipment maintenance strategies to enable the plant to meet its business plan and strategy. They will focus on opportunities that have impacted the plants measured asset capability and the opportunities identified as "high-risk" in risk assessments, reliability models, etc. The Mechanical Reliability Engineer will use reliability tools to evaluate the effectiveness of maintenance strategies for equipment and recommend improvements to ensure that the assets are meeting the intended business goals. In addition, they will participate in plant health studies and efforts to implement corrective action to maintain or improve plant health.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Apply engineering theory and practice to perform physical failure analysis, determine root cause of equipment failures and conduct equipment performance evaluations.
Analyze equipment trends & historical data to recommend and justify improvements to obtain lowest life cycle cost.
Determine how process variation and equipment operation can impact equipment reliability.
Support capital projects by participating in setting equipment criteria and specifications to optimize equipment/system reliability and life cycle cost. Also provide technical support for fabrication, installation, and start-up of new critical equipment.
Participate in production turnaround teams providing input into needed equipment inspection and repair procedures with potential to impact reliability.
Provide the second layer of technical support for Mechanical Maintenance Engineers and coach less experienced engineers.
Responsible for developing and maintaining Equipment Strategy and Asset Criticality program for their area.
Responsible for developing and maintaining the Bad Actor and Reliability Threats List.
Own the Lube-It and Vibration Databases for their areas and report out any alerts or overdue readings/tasks.
Provide a second layer of analysis support for Vibration and Lube Technicians and provide coaching as needed.
Participate in continuing education courses, professional organizations and reliability conferences to stay current with, and evaluate, emerging technologies.
Qualifications
B.S. degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering from ABET-accredited university. Advanced degree holders are encouraged to apply.
Minimum 5 years of applicable experience; demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively as a mechanical engineer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
5-10 Years experience in chemical manufacturing environment preferred.
General Skills
Good written, oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong trouble shooting skills.
Ability to learn and work independently.
Ability to work with others involved in a variety of functions including operators, maintenance technicians, engineers of various disciplines, management, and other leaders.
