Overview
Department D341 Welding and NDT Engineering-Suppliers and Strategic Sourcing - Responsible for providing technical guidance to suppliers as well as internal and external customers with respect to welding and fabrication of the components used in the construction of nuclear submarines. A challenging opportunity exists within the Supplier Oversight Group.
Basic Requirements
Participate in audits of suppliers performing welding to confirm contractual requirements are being followed at the supplier’s location
Follow up on audit findings and work to adjudicate findings affecting in process and delivered hardware
Review and approve supplier welding procedures
Disposition vendor information requests
Provide welding training/guidance to suppliers
Ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills to allow close communication of technical issues with SUPSHIP or NAVSEA customers and Electric Boat management.
Frequency of travel varies but at most travel to suppliers is one week at time, up to once per month.
Qualifications Required
Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology in the following disciplines:
Mechanical
Welding
Metallurgical
Materials (if focus is on Metallics)
5+ years of postgraduate engineering experience in an industrial weldingenvironment, shipbuilding or other heavy fabrication
Preferred
Experience working with basic arc welding processes and an understanding of the fundamentals of welding metallurgy
Leadership experience
Skills
Candidate must be highly motivated, perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations, including interfacing regularly with SUPSHIP or NAVSEA customers, in an engineering environment
Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are a must
