Overview Apogee is seeking an Assistant Facility Security Officer (AFSO) to join the corporate team! In this role, you will support the FSO in enforcing compliance with all regulatory guidance and established policies to include but not limited to; 32 CFR Part 117, National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM Rule). This is a full-time on-site position located in Colorado Springs, CO.
Responsibilities
Assist the FSO in implementing and managing all aspects of the industrial security program.
Maintain personnel security records and submit security clearance applications via Defense Information System for Security (DISS) and National Background Investigation Services (NBIS).
Conduct and document briefings, debriefings, and annual security training.
Support the preparation and submission of visit authorization requests (VARs), and escort visitors.
Assist with security self‑inspections and audits; act as alternate point of contact for security compliance inspections and audits.
Maintain document control registers for classified materials; oversee proper marking, transmission, and destruction.
Support incident reporting, investigations, and mitigation efforts related to security violations or suspicious contacts.
Assist with Insider Threat Program.
Support compliance with NISPOM, DoD Manuals, ICDs, and company procedures.
Work closely and develop key relationships with U. S. Government customers and DCSA Reps.
Perform in individual and team roles supporting all contractual security requirements for DoD collateral and SCI programs.
Prepare Standard Practices and Procedures outlining regulations, and establish procedures for handling, storing, and protecting classified materials.
Investigate security violations and prepare reports specifying preventive action to be taken.
Conduct Employee Out‑processing.
Support the security education training and awareness program.
Provide support for classified meetings.
Minimum Experience
Citizenship: Must be a US citizen.
Clearance: Must have and be able to maintain a Top‑Secret security clearance.
Certification: FSO training certificate from CDSE for Possessing Facilities.
Education: High School Diploma.
Years of experience: 5 or more years of relevant experience.
Additional Experience
Experience as an FSO or AFSO or similar Program security roles.
Experience using DISS, NISS, SWFT, NBIS, and ACCS Government databases.
Experience administering physical security, personnel security, information security, and operations security requirements in accordance with 32 CFR Part 117, National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM).
Experience conducting Security investigations.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidate must be able to effectively lead a team, work with minimal supervision in a high‑stress, fast‑paced, multi‑program environment.
Demonstrate the ability to collaborate, communicate well and effectively relay information with an emphasis on developing positive professional relationships.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively with personnel at all levels, including external government agencies. Good listening skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Adaptable to change and have the ability to prioritize responsibilities.
Detail oriented.
