Employment Type: Full time – 35 hours per week
Duration: 18-month Fixed Term Contract (possibility for extension)
Remuneration: Level B from $127,947, Level C from $155,403 + 17% superannuation and annual leave loading
Location: Kensington Campus, Sydney, New South Wales (hybrid flexible working opportunities available)
About the Role
UNSW Law & Justice is a top-ranking faculty and a global leader in law and legal practice education and research. This position is a dynamic legal practitioner or former practitioner role focused on shaping the next generation of lawyers for admission through UNSW’s Graduate Diploma in Legal Professional Practice (GDLPP) and the University’s Practical Legal Training (PLT) programme.
Why this role matters The role supports students’ development of practical skills, professional judgement and ethical awareness as they transition into the profession. Working alongside practitioner mentors and industry partners, the role will coordinate PLT core and elective courses, integrate work‑integrated learning (WIL), AI‑enhanced practice tools and practitioner‑led mentoring to maintain UNSW’s position as a national leader in professional legal education.
Skills And Experience Level B
Tertiary qualifications in law and admission as a legal practitioner in Australia, with 3‑5 years post‑admission experience in legal practice.
Evidence of teaching/practice experience in two or more disciplines (e.g., Litigation; Commercial and Property Practice; Administrative law; Family law; Banking and Finance; Consumer law; Employment law or Criminal Law).
Actively stays up to date with discipline knowledge and professional development.
Experience using practice technologies and online delivery methods.
Evidence of highly developed organisational skills and ability to deliver in a fast‑paced environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with students, practitioners and professional bodies.
Demonstrated experience in mentoring or supervising junior practitioners or law graduates and commitment to student wellbeing and helping graduates’ transition successfully into the profession.
Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.
Level C (in Addition To Level B)
Demonstrated success in initiating practice education development and improvement.
Evidence of professional development of teaching practice in self and others with the ability to advance and lead an inclusive culture of excellence in learning and teaching.
Demonstrated ability to interact with profession and industry and attract funding for learning and teaching initiatives.
An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
