Who We Are And What We Do The Tennessee Department of Correction operates and oversees 14 adult prisons across the state, housing approximately 21,000 offenders. In the community, TDOC supervises 79,000 offenders on probation, parole, or community corrections, and operates 44 probation/parole offices in 13 districts across the state. TDOC maintains safe and secure prisons and provides effective community supervision to enhance public safety.

Job Overview The Correctional Program Director assists in coordinating the daily administrative services of institutional compliance. Duties include oversight of institutional policy compliance and American Correctional Association (ACA) standards compliance for accreditation, and managing daily operations of TDOC programs and services.

Key Responsibilities

Assign and coordinate the daily administrative services of program compliance.

Oversee policy compliance and compliance with ACA standards for accreditation.

Provide guidance and assistance to TDOC staff and executive leadership.

Prepare and present reports to executive leadership.

Oversee, coordinate, and manage the daily functions of TDOC prisons, processes, and systems.

Evaluate and streamline administrative processes of the services that Central Office provides to facility personnel.

Make recommendations for improvements to processes for more efficient operations and services.

Develop, implement, and monitor procedures and policies.

Ensure policies and post orders submitted for review are correct and completed on time.

Conduct weekly reviews of policy expiration tracking report.

Collaborate with other policy/procedure staff.

Assist the Assistant Commissioner of Prisons in conducting facility site visits to check security practices within each correctional facility during traditional and non-traditional hours.

Visit facilities to monitor staff actions while on the compounds and within housing units.

Ensure search and incident policies are being followed.

Review use of force packets, images, and video to ensure they meet policy reporting requirements.

Review staff assault incident reviews received from the facility’s images and video to ensure reporting compliance.

Review staff rosters for overtime usage and identify trends to reduce reliance on overtime through roster management.

Ensure facilities respond in a timely manner to Division of Claims/CorVel requests for documents or completion of claims.

Receive facility armory inventories and process according to policy.

Receive from STS/TDOC Report Services the draft COMPSTAT monthly spreadsheets for each facility.

Send to facilities for completion.

Track completion status.

Archive data on laptop local drive.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree with five (5) years of correctional experience. Substitution of experience for education may be accepted on a year‑for‑year basis, up to a maximum of four years.
