Role Description The Network Engineering team owns the architecture and design of GFiber’s wireline and wireless networks. We are looking for a Staff Network Engineer to lead the evolution of our access network stack, including PON, Ethernet, and edge technologies. This role leads the architecture and systemization of our access platforms, ensuring technical consistency and timely qualification of next‑generation solutions such as NG access gateways, XGS‑PON, and 50G/100G PON. It plays a key part in vendor alignment, access‑layer migrations, and delivering high‑quality connectivity experiences to our customers.
Responsibilities
Design and evolve a scalable, secure, and flexible access network architecture for residential and commercial services across GPON/XGS‑PON, Ethernet, and emerging technologies.
Own architectural decisions and documentation for access systems and their integration with core, OSS/BSS, and operational tools.
Partner with Network Operations to define service observability, troubleshoot issues, and support fault/performance management strategies.
Lead vendor evaluations (RFI/RFP/POC), define system requirements, and oversee onboarding of new hardware/software into the network.
Collaborate across product, software, and engineering teams to enable advanced enterprise offerings (e.g., DIA, L2/L3 VPNs, transport).
Represent GFiber in industry standards groups and influence vendor roadmaps to align with our strategic goals.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
10 years in access network design and operations.
Experience with PON technologies (GPON, XGS‑PON, 25G/50G PON), Ethernet access, and aggregation networks.
Familiarity with IP/MPLS protocols (OSPF, BGP, Segment Routing) and network virtualization (SDN/NFV).
Experience with monitoring and telemetry tools (NetFlow, SNMP, syslog) and packet‑level analysis (Wireshark, TCPdump).
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a technical field or equivalent leadership experience.
Hands‑on experience with managing incidents across hybrid networks (fiber + wireless).
Familiarity with network automation and observability stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Ansible, custom alerting systems).
Experience with customer‑impact modeling and SLA/SLO definitions across service tiers.
Experience leading RCA/post‑mortem processes and creating closed‑loop remediation workflows.
Track record of building cross‑team collaboration between Engineering, NOC, and Field Ops.
Industry presence through standards contributions, conference talks, or reliability‑focused publications.
The US base salary range for this full‑time position is between
$164,000 - $241,100
+ bonus + cash award + benefits. Pay varies by location; your recruiter will share more detail during the hiring process.
