Junior/Mid-Level Structural Inspection Quality Control Engineer
Location: Rockville, MD / DMV area (specific location based on site/client office)
This position is contingent upon contract award.
We are seeking a Junior/Mid-Level Structural Inspection Quality Control (SIQC) Engineer to assist in the quality control and review of structural inspections performed by inspection teams. This role involves reviewing inspection reports, supporting field inspection activities, and ensuring the overall quality and consistency of the structural inspection program.
Job Description
Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of structural inspection manuals, standards, and procedures to ensure compliance with established guidelines.
Conduct quality control reviews of inspection reports, observe and assess field inspections, and perform post-inspection quality control activities.
Serve as a technical resource by providing guidance on inspection best practices to inspection personnel.
Support the development and implementation of improvements to quality control and inspection processes.
Generate reports based on inspection findings to assist the Program Director, maintenance, and engineering teams in prioritizing maintenance and renewal efforts.
Perform other duties as assigned to support accurate and reliable inspection documentation.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis on structural engineering.
Ability to perform QC of structural inspections for a variety of assets, including bridge spans, tunnels, culverts, stations, fences, retaining walls, shafts, S&I pits, bus and parking garages, and other infrastructure.
Experience in structural inspection testing and ability to recommend appropriate non-destructive (NDT) and destructive testing methods.
Experience with inspection tools such as the D-Meter and dye penetrant or similar NDT equipment.
Strong communication skills to coordinate with field crews and prepare detailed QC reports.
Certifications required:
For Professional Engineer (PE) candidates:
FHWA-NHI-130055 or FHWA-NHI-130056 (Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges);
FHWA-NHI-130056) Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges for Professional Engineers; and
FHWA-NHI-130078 (Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges).
For Engineer in Training (EIT) candidates: FHWA-NHI-130055 (Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges).
Preferred: Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred, with at least 3 years of hands‑on structural inspection and testing experience on major transit system infrastructure.
Experience with WMATA bridge and tunnel inspections.
Experience providing recommendations on prioritizing structural asset management strategies, including maintenance and renewal.
Completion of a 10‑hour OSHA safety course.

National Tunnel Inspection Standards (NTIS);

Salary Proposed Salary: $80,000 - $120,000 per year
