Job Description Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Performance, the Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach will assist with all aspects of American University’s varsity strength and conditioning program. The coach will direct the strength & conditioning of men’s basketball, men’s and women’s track, and one additional team, working closely with head coaches, athletic trainers, and student‑athletes to implement physical development and flexibility programs that enhance strength, speed, cardiovascular endurance, and sport‑specific skills. The role also includes rehabilitation of sports‑related injuries.

Essential Functions

Responsible for the physical development of approximately three varsity teams and their student‑athletes across all phases of the season.

Oversee day‑to‑day management of the strength room, records, and equipment, maintaining proper order and reporting any major concerns or maintenance needs.

Coordinate with Athletic Training staff on all aspects of team strength conditioning programs, injury recovery, and prevention.

Participate in continuing education through conferences, symposiums, and readings to stay current on techniques, trends, and advancements.

Salary Range

$50,000.00 annually

Required Education And Experience

Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, exercise science, biomechanics, or related field and certification in strength and conditioning (NSCA/CSCS or SCCC).

One year of experience as a graduate assistant/intern or assistant strength and conditioning coach at the collegiate or professional level.

1-3 years of relevant experience.

Experience implementing alternative training techniques such as plyometrics, speed and agility programs, and conditioning to enhance sport‑specific skills.

Preferred Education And Experience

Master's degree

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Experience with multi‑sport weight training programs and individualizing workouts to reduce injury risk and enhance performance.
