Under general direction, the Assistant Director of Airports directs, manages, supervises, and coordinates assigned activities and operations of the Sacramento County Airport System including the planning, development, management and administration of various sections, and coordinates with other divisions, departments, outside agencies, and the general public.

Employment Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

Five (5) years of full‑time paid experience in airport management at a commercial aviation facility involving airport operations; planning and development; finance and administration; and/or marketing and air service development. Experience must have been at the managerial or supervisory level within the commercial airport facility and have included policy planning; program development; budget preparation and administration; and/or contract administration.

Note:

If the word “experience” is referenced in the minimum qualifications, it means full‑time paid experience unless the minimum qualification states that volunteer experience is acceptable. Part‑time paid experience may be accumulated and pro‑rated to meet the total experience requirements.

General Qualifications

Criminal History and Background Checks: The County may access criminal history information on candidates who have accepted a conditional offer of appointment for this class consistent with the provisions of Board of Supervisors Resolution No. 82‑602, Personnel Policies, and applicable federal and state laws. The County shall not consider any candidate with a felony or misdemeanor related to job duties unless mitigating circumstances exist. Candidates will be fingerprinted for background checks.

Travel Requirement: Approximately 10% travel to industry meetings, FAA, TSA, airlines, and other stakeholders.

License Requirement: A valid California Driver License, Class C or higher, is required.

Security Access Badge: Must acquire and maintain an airport security badge complying with Title 49 CFR 1542 regulations.

Working Conditions: Indoor office setting with controlled temperature; occasional exposure to aircraft noise and harsh weather.

Probationary Period

Twelve (12) months.
