Base pay range $117,624.56/yr - $121,329.74/yr
Position Summary Performs installation, administration, monitoring and management of enterprise class virtualization platform on Intel/VMWare/HyperV technologies and Windows Server systems.
Primary Responsibilities
Installs and administers various server systems using VMWare, HyperV, Windows and Linux technologies.
Performs testing of systems, programs and oversees detection of errors.
Performs server system updates, reviews reports and problem records to evaluate performance of computer system.
Analyzes performance of server systems by evaluating performance indicators, such as system response time, number of transactions per second and number of programs being processed at once, as well as engaging in discussions (troubleshooting) with other System Administrators to ensure that systems are operating efficiently.
Implements changes to system software so that system performance will meet objectives.
Reviews computer system capabilities, workflow and scheduling limitations to determine if requested changes to operating system are possible.
Writes description of steps taken to modify system and procedures required to implement new software or hardware.
Monitors the changes into server systems to correct errors.
Collaborates with application support team to analyze performance of overall systems.
Performs related duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree relating to Information Technology required.
10+ years experience in Windows server system administration.
Knowledge and proficiency in Windows Server 2008/2012/2016, VMware, HyperV, Active Directory, O365, enterprise storage and compute platforms and TCP/IP networks.
Experience with root cause analysis to determine source of issues and recommend solutions.
Experience with troubleshooting using Windows Server and other third party tools.
Experience in testing and applying security patches for operating systems and applications.
Experience configuring enterprise class server hardware such as Cisco UCS.
Experience in producing technical reports, analysis and statistical reports using desktop publishing software and IT tools related to this position.
Physical Requirements
Frequently required to sit and talk or hear, use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, equipment, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to walk.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Requires remaining in a stationary position for extended periods of time and constantly operating a computer and other office productivity machinery.
Service Area Requirement: Exempt (Non-Union) employees must live within the boundaries of the CTA Statutory Service Area either at the time of employment or within 6 months of beginning employment at CTA.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of server backup methodologies.
Working knowledge of Windows Server 2008/2012/2016, VMware, Active Directory, Office 365, storage networks, and TCP/IP networks.
Strong skill in applying root cause analysis to determine source of issues and recommend solutions.
Strong skill in using Windows Server and other third party tools.
Strong analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving skills.
Strong written and oral communication skills and attention to detail.
Strong selection, appraisal and development skills.
Intermediate skill in testing and applying security patches for operating systems and applications.

Working Conditions
Working conditions are normally administrative in nature, but may periodically require employee to adjust conditions to address the technical and project support needs of the CTA.
System operational support response requires availability on 24 x 7 x 365 basis.
