The Associate Director for Advising and Success is a full-time position responsible for leading academic advising, coaching, and student success efforts through leadership within the Academic Resource Center (ARC). The Associate Director provides vision, supervision, and strategic coordination for a team of advisors, success coaches, and peer tutors while maintaining a student caseload to provide direct and contribute to student success. This position works collaboratively across campus to create a proactive, personalized support system that fosters student belonging and academic success in a Christ‑centered environment.

Reports to: Executive Director of Student Success

Education Required

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree highly preferred.

Experience Required Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of undergraduate students, student development, career counseling, academic advising, student retention, student success strategies and services, educational theory and practice, FERPA regulations, and other ethical/legal issues relevant to advising, program and curriculum assessment, and academic and administrative policies/procedures.

Knowledge of the curricula and programs offered at the College.

Knowledge of and commitment to the College mission and aims.

Ability to think critically, produce and analyze reports and proposals, and resolve organizational and individual problems in collaboration with other learning professionals as appropriate.

Excellent teaching, planning, leadership, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with (or willingness to become familiar with) the National Association of Academic Advising (NACADA) core values and best practices.

Willingness to expand and contribute to the scholarship of professional advising via presentations or articles in the field of higher education – specifically student success.

Duties Leadership in Advising and Student Success

Supervise and mentor residential academic advisors and student success coaches.

Provide ongoing training, development, and performance feedback to ensure excellence and consistency in advising practices.

Develop and maintain the ARC Advising Manual to guide and support the work of professional academic advisors.

Ensure that advising content, communication, and programming align with Bryan’s mission and the developmental needs of early college students.

Student Support and Caseload Responsibilities:

Maintain a caseload of advisees and/or coaching for at‑risk students to remain connected to student needs and advising best practice.

Counsel students on academic issues and program progress, and assist in identifying and overcoming academic difficulties through thoughtful educational planning.

Assess individual student needs and make appropriate referrals to other campus services and resources as needed.

Aid students in establishing realistic and attainable academic goals.

Develop and maintain a strong communication line with academic departments and various student support divisions.

Maintain student records, including creating and updating accurate four‑year degree plans for advising caseload.

Participate in the planning and implementation of registration, fall and spring orientation, Admissions events, or any other College planning sessions or programs as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Instructional and Student Support Responsibilities:

Develop and deliver workshops and seminars on academic skills, study techniques, and time management strategies focused on the first‑year experience.

Conduct one‑on‑one and group instructional sessions to enhance students’ understanding of their coursework and academic requirements.

Oversee the creation of supplemental resources (e.g., planning guides, degree checklists, advising videos) that support proactive advising and academic planning.

Support the development and delivery of instructional sessions on academic habits, study skills, and time management—especially for at‑risk or transitioning students.

Assist with or serve as instructor as needed with first‑year experience courses or academic success courses as assigned.

Peer Tutoring Program Oversight

Provide strategic and operational leadership for the on‑campus peer tutoring program, ensuring effective tutor recruitment, training, scheduling, and supervision.

Collaborate with faculty and ARC staff to assess tutoring needs and align services with curricular demands.

Monitor tutor performance and student outcomes to ensure high‑quality academic support and continuous program improvement.

Promote tutoring services through student communications, campus partnerships, and regular evaluation.

Desired Qualities Communication and Comprehension:

Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well‑articulated information.

Ability to understand, speak, and write English to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.

Ability to work effectively with students of all cultural backgrounds.

Attentiveness to detail and strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize multiple requests and handle them efficiently and timely.

Ability to understand and abide by federal and college guidelines regarding student confidentiality requirements.

Excellent listening skills.

Computer experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), databases, and spreadsheets.

Problem Solving:

Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
