Summary
You will serve as an Electrician Leader in the Department of the Navy to include work sites of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Trident Refit Facility Bangor, Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, and Intermediate Maintenance Facility. Applicants will only be considered for positions within their own UIC.
Duties
Determine placement of electrical distribution panels and other equipment.
Install, maintain, troubleshoot, or repair electrical equipment, systems, generators, switchboards, or control equipment in a shipyard environment.
Repair faulty electrical equipment or systems on nuclear ships using theoretical practices of the trade.
Operate power tools (pipe benders, cutters, power drills) to cut, bend, fit, and thread components of electrical equipment and systems.
Use hand tools and test equipment to check alignment, output, or resistance to ground and other electrical characteristics.
Diagnose faulty electrical equipment or systems to determine rework or replacement of faulty components on nuclear ships alterations and repairs.
Requirements
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
Must pass the E‑Verify employment verification check.
Appointment of retired military members within 180 days after retirement to a civilian position is subject to 5 U.S.C. § 3326.
Born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
This may be a bargaining unit position.
May be required to complete a pre‑appointment physical examination.
Required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance before entrance on duty.
Work may involve exposure to harmful physical and chemical agents; participation in medical surveillance is required.
May be required to wear personal protective equipment continuously for the duration of the work shift.
This position may require travel to CONUS and OCONUS, including remote or isolated sites.
May require work on an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
May be a drug‑testing position; successful completion of a pre‑employment drug test is required.
This position may require exposure to high noise levels.
