SUMMARY:

The Director of Business Finance – Technology & Innovation serves as the finance leader for the T&I segment, partnering directly with FP&A and segment leadership to drive financial strategy, performance management, and capital efficiency across the bank’s enterprise technology, operations, and innovation ecosystem. This role blends strategic finance, cost optimization, and transformation leadership, ensuring that technology and innovation investments deliver measurable value, efficiency, and business enablement. The Director will lead financial planning, forecasting, and decision support for key domains including Information Systems, Enterprise PMO, Deposit Operations, Payments Technology, and Process Improvement while influencing enterprise-wide productivity and modernization initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Serves as Finance Head for Technology & Innovation, partnering with the CIO and senior executives to align financial plans with the bank’s digital transformation strategy.

Leads financial evaluation and prioritization of major technology and process investments – ensuring disciplined capital deployment, measurable ROI, and business alignment.

Partners with the Enterprise PMO to track initiative performance and financial benefits realization across technology and operational transformation portfolios.

Supports capital planning and expense management for technology infrastructure, applications, cyber, and enterprise platforms; ensures alignment to strategic priorities.

Leads scenario analysis on technology spends under varying business growth and interest rate conditions, ensuring sustainability of run and change budgets.

Advises on technology sourcing and vendor strategy to optimize cost structure and agility.

Owns the annual planning, budgeting, and forecasting process for Technology & Innovation, encompassing both run-the-bank and change-the-bank investments.

Drives a zero‑based mindset for discretionary and project spend, ensuring transparency of cost drivers and benefit realization.

Partners with Deposit Operations, Payments, and Process Improvement to quantify operational efficiencies and automation benefits.

Leads the monthly Technology & Innovation Performance Review with segment and FP&A leadership, providing clear insight into budget utilization, cost variance, and transformation ROI.

Makes accurate and timely reporting on project capitalization, depreciation, vendor expenses, and initiative outcomes.

Serves as the finance advisor to the Head of Technology & Innovation and enterprise leadership on technology investment prioritization, productivity, and innovation pipeline economics.

Establishes and maintains a strong partnership with the IT FinOps and Finance Management team to form a foundational pod responsible for managing and executing the technology finance book of work.

Partners with business segments to align technology funding with revenue enablement, efficiency gains, and client experience outcomes.

Leads financial modeling for enterprise initiatives such as digital modernization, payments transformation, core banking upgrades, and automation.

Translates complex financial and operational metrics into concise, data‑driven recommendations for executive decision making.

Influences vendor negotiations and sourcing strategies with procurement and technology governance to ensure best‑in‑class total cost of ownership (TCO).

Ensures adherence to corporate financial governance standards, SOX, and capital expenditure policies for all technology-related investments.

Partners with the enterprise project management office and controllership to ensure consistent tracking of project capitalization, benefits realization, and expense recognition.

Maintains an audit‑ready environment for technology financial management processes.

Strengthens cost allocation frameworks for technology and operations services, ensuring transparency and fairness across lines of business.

Helps develop high‑performing, digitally fluent finance talent.

Fosters a culture of curiosity, accountability, and innovation within the finance function.

Promotes continuous improvement in forecasting accuracy, reporting automation, and analytical storytelling.

Serves as a change leader for finance transformation initiatives, including automation, data integration, and AI‑based forecasting tools.

Adheres to applicable federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including AML requirements.

Adheres to Bank policies and procedures and completes required training.

Identifies and reports suspicious activity.

Supervises function, projects or services and/or one or more employees, as applicable.

Administers interviewing, hiring, training employees; planning, assigning, directing work; appraising performance coaching; rewarding, disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative field such as economics, finance, statistics, or mathematics required. MBA, CFA or CPA preferred.

Experience 15+ years of progressive experience in finance, FP&A, or business management with significant exposure to technology, operations, or transformation finance.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Expertise in IT financial management, cost optimization, and project portfolio analysis.

Strong understanding of technology investment governance, project accounting, and capitalization principles.

Exceptional analytical and modeling skills; leads teams that produce actionable insights rather than reports.

Advanced proficiency in Excel, Power BI/Tableau, and data‑driven forecasting tools; SQL or Python experience a plus.

Proficiency with the use of AI tools in a professional environment.

Creative ability to design and build large‑scale processes with timely deliverables.

Understanding of data governance and data quality controls.

Ability to stay current with regulatory changes, industry trends and emerging technologies and tools.

Ability to directly or indirectly lead groups of people in large‑scale projects with timely deliverables.
