Job Description Infrastructure Engineer based in New Albany, Ohio (7205 New Albany Condit Road, New Albany, Ohio, 43054). The role is independently accountable for identifying and responding to onsite risks and high-priority issues rapidly and effectively, troubleshooting incidents, shift turnover, incident queues, media processing, and escorting vendors.
Responsibilities
40% working with the Product Owner, Service Owner and Subject Matter Experts to validate context of requirements and execute user stories involving onsite data center systems; including critical system installs, data room moves, decommissions, reconfigurations, and onsite power down events.
20% independently executing a variety of user stories with different contexts and actively contributing opinions to design decisions.
20% demonstrating the ability to identify basic building blocks and components of data centers and OSI Layer 1 Infrastructure, and evaluate impact of changes on‑prem.
10% defining and evaluating team documentation for process improvement.
5% regularly contributing to team agile ceremonies, leading demos and presentations, helping new engineers learn norms, and participating in technology communities.
5% mandatory (as noted in job description).
Qualifications
1‑3+ years’ experience deploying and maintaining complex data center environments (new facility, major renovations/expansions).
Understanding of indoor/outdoor cable plants, including copper cabling, long‑range/short‑range fiber optic cabling.
Knowledge of IT infrastructure components (LAN/WAN/SAN, firewalls, Wintel/Lintel/UNIX servers, storage, roll‑on equipment, wireless, DAS).
Knowledge of EIA/TIA, IEEE, NEC, and ISO standards relating to data centers and structured cabling.
Ability to communicate and collaborate with internal teams and external vendors.
Team player and self‑starter.
Strong documentation skills to capture architecture details and procedures.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Bachelor’s degree in CS/CIS/Network/Telecommunications or related field or equivalent work experience.
Data center and/or networking industry certifications preferred.
3‑5+ years’ experience designing, deploying, and maintaining complex data center environments.
Layer 1 Technologies knowledge (Single Mode, Multimode, Cat 5e/6/6A, DACs, optical transceivers, connectors, performance specs, deployment topologies).
Knowledge of TIA‑568 and TIA‑942.
Hardware platforms (Network, Compute, IoT, AV, End User).
Common network topologies and deployment methods.
Power and cooling infrastructure layout from generation to rack level; rack standards and selection criteria.
Installation and upgrade procedures, APIs and system integration.
Operating system platforms, preventative network security hardening, administration and configuration guidelines.
Knowledge of communication protocols, network monitoring (SNMP, CDP, ICMP), and system automation.
Proficiency with automation frameworks and an automation‑first mindset.
Operational support and process management experience.
Power and cooling infrastructure, fire suppression, physical security, facility maintenance knowledge.
Technical writing: clear, concise, precise writing and editing skills.
Engineering base: solid network knowledge and technical jargon familiarity.
