Overview An established acute care hospital in
Fort Walton Beach, Florida
is seeking a compassionate and experienced
Director of Behavioral Health Services
to lead a 48-bed inpatient behavioral health unit. This role oversees clinical operations, strategic growth, staff development, and performance improvement within the department. The ideal candidate is an empathetic, high-performing nurse leader with a passion for mental health services, regulatory compliance, and patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
Direct day-to-day operations of the inpatient behavioral health unit, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance.
Develop and implement departmental policies, clinical protocols, and performance goals.
Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and compassionate care.
Collaborate with medical staff, case management, and community partners to coordinate care and expand behavioral health services.
Oversee staffing, scheduling, and employee development for approximately 24 FTEs.
Monitor budgets, productivity, and resource utilization to ensure financial sustainability.
Support interdisciplinary teams in maintaining a therapeutic, safe, and recovery-focused environment.
Drive quality metrics and regulatory readiness, ensuring compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, and state standards.
Lead initiatives to improve patient experience, engagement, and clinical outcomes.
Qualifications Required:
Current RN license in the State of Florida (or Compact License)
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration
Minimum 5 years of recent inpatient Behavioral Health management or assistant director experience
BLS certification within 30 days of hire
Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI/CPI) within 90 days of hire
Preferred:
Master’s Degree in Nursing, Behavioral Health, or related field
Experience managing acute care psychiatric or dual-diagnosis units
Strong leadership, budgeting, and strategic planning skills
