Director of Professional Services | Helping Employers Hire Top Skilled Trades, HR, Finance, Engineering & Admin Talent | Leading Direct Hire… We are seeking a detail‑oriented and experienced Tax Accountant to join our public accounting firm in the Indianapolis area. The Tax Accountant will be responsible for preparing and reviewing various tax returns, conducting tax research, and providing high‑quality tax compliance and advisory services to a diverse client base, including individuals and small to mid‑sized businesses.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Preparation & Compliance:

Prepare and/or review a high volume of complex federal, state, and local income tax returns for individuals (Form 1040), partnerships (Form 1065), S‑Corporations (Form 1120S), and potentially C‑Corporations (Form 1120) and Trusts/Estates (Form 1041).

Analyze financial statements, ledger accounts, and client‑provided data to accurately compute and report taxable income.

Calculate and prepare quarterly and annual estimated tax payments for various entities.

Client Service & Consultation:

Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients, managing the tax compliance engagement from start to finish.

Respond to client inquiries and communicate complex tax issues and planning opportunities clearly and effectively.

Assist clients with IRS and state taxing authority notices and audits.

Research & Advisory:

Conduct tax research using professional tax software and databases to stay current on new tax laws, rulings, and regulations.

Identify and implement tax planning strategies to minimize client tax liabilities.

Analyze and reconcile book‑to‑tax differences.

Firm Operations & Development:

Utilize tax preparation software and accounting technology efficiently. Experience with Lacerte preferred.

Maintain organized and complete tax work papers and documentation.

Contribute to the firm’s commitment to continuous improvement in internal processes and technology usage.

Qualifications and Skills

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.

Experience:

2+ years of recent, progressive tax preparation experience in a public accounting firm environment is strongly preferred.

Experience preparing a variety of tax returns (1040, 1065, 1120S, 1120).

Licensure/Certification:

CPA license or active progress towards obtaining the CPA license (e.g., actively sitting for exams) is required.

Technical Skills:

Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office products.

Demonstrated experience with professional tax preparation software and research tools.
