Exam Schedule
Written Exam:
Monday, December 8, 2025 at 3 pm or Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at 9 am.
Oral Exam:
Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Superior High School.
Physical Readiness Test (PRT):
Date, time and location to be determined.
NOTE:
Candidates who took and passed the written test in the June 2025 police officer process will not be required to take the written test again during this process.
Job Overview A Police Officer performs a wide variety of duties related to general police work including investigation, general enforcement of laws and ordinances in the City of Superior and providing assistance to advance the mission of the department.
The entry‑level Police Officer must complete an 18‑week Recruit Academy (if not Wisconsin certified) and 14 weeks of on‑the‑job field training. The City will pay and cover costs for the recruit academy.

Work Schedule Patrol Officers work 12‑hour shifts, 4 days on – 4 days off (built‑in overtime included).
Lateral Transfer Police Officer candidates with one year of full‑time law enforcement experience may apply. They must be eligible to become a Certified Wisconsin Law Enforcement Officer prior to hire and will be credited with their years of experience for wage placement, vacation accrual, and minimum experience for Detective application. They must complete 14 weeks of on‑the‑job field training and pass a 12‑month probationary period.
Knowledge
Working knowledge of principles and practices of law enforcement; laws and ordinances governing local law enforcement;
First aid;
Geography of the City of Superior and surrounding area;
Some knowledge of court proceedings and proper investigative practices.
Abilities
Successfully complete a recruit academy (if not already Wisconsin certified) and a 14‑week on‑the‑job field training program;
Prepare clear and concise reports;
Operate a computer;
Speak clearly and effectively;
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department personnel and the general public;
Provide credible testimony in a court of law;
Use a firearm and other equipment;
Drive a police vehicle;
Work under adverse weather conditions;
Work varied shifts, including nights, holidays and weekends;
Use good judgment, integrity and tact.
Requirements
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Must have no serious criminal convictions.
Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire.
Must have earned a high school diploma or GED.
Must complete 60 college credits from an accredited college in any field within the first five years of hire.
Must have accurate color vision and meet specific visual acuity standards.
Special Requirements
License Requirement:
Become certified as a State of Wisconsin Law Enforcement Officer within one year of hire and maintain such certification.
Oath of Office Requirement:
Take an oath of office.
Driver License Requirement:
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Residency Requirement:
Reside within a forty‑five‑minute response time to the corporate limits of the City of Superior within 6 months of completion of probationary period.
Background Investigation Requirement:
Pass a detailed background investigation prior to hire.
Post Job Offer Psychological Examination Requirement:
Pass a psychological exam for the position prior to hire.
Post Job Offer Medical Examination Requirement:
Pass a medical exam for specified occupational grouping and drug screen prior to hire.

Deadline Sunday, November 30, 2025 before 11:00 p.m.
Examination Process (Important Dates) Written Exam:
Monday, December 8, 2025 at 3 pm or Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at 9:00 am. The exam will take approximately 2 hours and will be given in Superior only.
Exam notices will be emailed to qualified applicants.
Interviews & Physical Readiness Testing:
Interviews will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Superior High School. The Physical Readiness Test will be held on a date, time, and location yet to be determined.
Eligible applicants must score among the top 50 passing candidates on the written test to continue in the process. Successful candidates must then pass an interview and a physical readiness test to be placed on the eligible list. Veteran's Preference points will be assigned prior to calculating the final score for ranking on the eligible list.
After these tests, candidates must pass a background investigation, a psychological examination, a post‑job‑offer medical examination, and a drug screen to receive a probationary appointment.
The eligible list will be used for filling vacancies for a two‑year period from the date the list is established and can be extended up to three years by the Superior Police and Fire Commission.
