R/V Western Flyer Licensed Assistant Engineer I (Finance)
Organizational Summary The Florida Institute of Oceanography (FIO) is engaged in marine research, education, and resource management. FIO operates the Key Marine Lab and the Research Vessel Western Flyer to support research and education across Florida.
Responsibilities
Assist the Licensed Chief Engineer with improvements, modifications, and general maintenance of the vessel's shipboard engines and systems.
Maintain the vessel's electronic maintenance and inventory control and management system, continue the crack inspection program.
Maintain operational logs, monitor fuel and lube oil consumption, and maintain onboard parts inventory for all vessel systems.
Oversee and manage the ship's engineering crew, engineering vendors and subcontractors, and shipyard shops as they relate to the vessel's equipment.
Prepare Shipyard Repair and Modification Specifications; oversee all shipyard work for equipment listed in Primary Duties.
Qualifications
High school diploma required.
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in an engineering field or certification from an engineering trade school preferred.
Licensed First Assistant Engineer per US Coast Guard regulations (required for the Research Vessel Western Flyer).
