Working as a Fiber Technician II in Smartlink's Technology Solutions Division, you will support wireless telecommunication infrastructure projects such as in-building, rooftops, datacenters, and tower sites (no cell tower climbing). The desired candidate will have team experience, customer interface, fiber pulling, dressing cables, and project closeouts. Experience with fiber testing preferred.
Desired Experience
Wireless Telecom fiber install, router upgrades, testing and troubleshooting
Run and terminate cables (power, cat5, cat6, etc.)
DC power installation, modification, and upgrade
Summary Description Responsible for continuing to expand knowledge base and performing mid-to-high skilled tasks to install, de-install, maintain and repair wireless telecommunications equipment and systems. This position will install/terminate cables, to include CAT5, CAT6, routers, twisted pair, optical fiber and various sizes of power cable and other cable types, through conduit, in cable tray, above ceilings and between floors. This position will install/assemble/program/commission/integrate wireless network equipment, to include routers, DC Power Plants and Rectifiers, LMU’s, BTS (2G, 3G and 4G), MCPA’s, RF Filters, Duplexers, Backhaul (copper, fiber and microwave). This position must be able to perform all functions of standard cell site acceptance, receive, equipment installation, and cabling. This position will be tasked with working as a lead on projects, maintaining project trackers and providing updates to management. This position must be capable of performing test procedures with various types of test equipment. All work to be completed in a safe manner to the highest quality standards.
Responsibilities
Perform complex fiber optic splicing using ribbon and mass fusion techniques
Conduct comprehensive fiber optic testing using OTDR and power meter equipment
Mentor junior technicians and provide on-the-job training
Troubleshoot splice and testing failures
Maintain detailed splice and test documentation
Ensure adherence to industry standards (TIA-568, IEC, Telcordia)
Operate and maintain Fujikura 90R and other specialized splicing equipment
Perform quality control inspections on completed work
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification preferred
3+ years experience in fiber optic splicing and testing
Experience with 200-micron ribbon fiber and Base-16 architectures
Proficiency with mass fusion splicing equipment (Fujikura, Sumitomo)
OTDR testing certification and experience with EXFO equipment
FOA CFOT certification; CFOS/S preferred
Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights
Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
Valid driver's license
Must be able to occasionally lift or exert up to 50 pounds of force, with minimal physical effort required for most tasks.
Travel Requirements
Extensive travel (>50%) is required with this position
