The Team You Will Be Joining Join a small, collaborative accounting team within a Texas state agency that manages critical public programs and grant funding. This agency’s mission supports statewide initiatives that drive innovation and economic growth across Texas.
Major Duties
Process daily grant expense payment vouchers using the state’s accounting system (CAPPS).
Set up and maintain grant award ledgers and reconcile budgets using Excel.
Review and approve procurement and travel requisitions.
Assist with preparing the agency’s annual budget and other legislative financial reports.
Support annual and internal audits by providing documentation and research.
Reconcile accounts monthly and prepare various financial and revenue reports.
Train new staff on accounting systems and provide CAPPS user support.
Cross‑train on other accounting functions, including voucher entry, reconciliations, and reporting, to ensure business continuity.
What Are We Looking For?
One (1) year of full‑time accounting, budgeting, financial analysis, or audit experience within a Texas state agency. (Applicants with local government or higher education accounting experience may also be considered.)
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (basic formulas, reconciliations, and reporting).
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet recurring deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with state financial systems such as USAS, CAPPS (PeopleSoft), and ABEST.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field (experience may substitute for education on a year‑for‑year basis).
Exciting Opportunity Details
Compensation Rate: $35/hour.
Length of Engagement: 3–6 months with strong potential for temp‑to‑hire conversion.
Days/Hours: Monday–Friday, standard 40‑hour work week (flexible hours available, e.g., 7:30–4:30 or 8–5).
Location: Austin, TX (Hybrid – up to 20 hours remote per week with management approval).
