Overview A large, mission-driven educational organization is seeking a
Accountant
to join its centralized treasury and accounting team. This role supports financial operations across multiple regions, ensuring accurate reporting, compliance, and efficient payroll and reconciliation processes.
The Accountant will work closely with the Controller and other team members to perform financial analysis, manage payroll reconciliations, support the annual audit, and maintain fixed asset and scholarship records. This is a great opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a collaborative, service-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, analyze, and upload payroll transactions in a timely and accurate manner, including employee benefits and deductions.
Complete payroll reconciliations for multiple regions, ensuring totals tie to uploaded payroll journal entries.
Reconcile employer contributions, benefit deductions, and other withholdings to ensure accuracy in the general ledger.
Record and reconcile flexible spending accounts, 403(b) contributions, and other benefit-related transactions.
Perform monthly reconciliations for operating, restricted, and payroll bank accounts, resolving discrepancies as needed.
Analyze payroll reports and recommend process improvements.
Support quarterly and annual tax return reconciliations.
Maintain accurate records of fixed assets and calculate monthly depreciation; prepare related audit schedules.
Reconcile scholarship funds and prepare monthly management scholarship reports.
Record cash transfers and treasury sweep transactions.
Assist in the preparation of audit schedules and support external auditors.
Contribute to developing and maintaining accounting policies, procedures, and controls.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum 4 years of relevant accounting or auditing experience, preferably in the non-profit, education, or multi-entity environment.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.
Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work effectively in a team-oriented setting.
Proactive, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
