Who We Are CardWorks, Inc. is a diversified consumer finance service provider and parent company of CardWorks Servicing, LLC, Merrick Bank and Carson Smithfield, LLC. CardWorks Servicing, LLC provides end‑to‑end operational servicing functions for credit cards, secured cards, and installment loans. We service consumer and small business loans across the credit spectrum and offer backup servicing and due diligence services to capital providers and trustees. Merrick Bank is an FDIC‑insured Utah Industrial Loan Bank, operating three main business lines: credit cards, recreational lending, and merchant services. Carson Smithfield, LLC provides a variety of post‑charge‑off debt recovery services, including digital self‑service, IVR, live agent, and external agency management.

Position Summary This position is responsible for the preparation, examination, analysis, and action of the legal entity set of books within the accounting team and more broadly across the Finance business unit. The Staff Accountant will play a critical role in the accounting team, working closely with the FP‑A, Technology and Operations groups by seeking to build and enhance existing processes and worksheets, presenting recommendations from experience, data, reporting, and known best‑in‑class practices. This position will communicate findings and recommendations to the broader accounting team.

Essential Functions

Prepares, examines, and analyzes accounting records, financial statements or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.

Prepares monthly journal entries, G/L reconciliations, and business line financial statements.

Drives continual enhancement of internal controls and ensures financial results recorded in compliance with financial policies, Sarbanes‑Oxley (SOX) and GAAP.

Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual work papers.

Records and reconciles intercompany and fixed asset activity.

Prepares, monitors and manages the monthly escheatment process.

Assists in responding to annual audit inquiries, regulatory inquiries and internal audit inquiries.

Prepares daily client settlement funding documentation, daily cash positioning report and daily cash sweep documentation.

Supports special projects, ad hoc reporting and other responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required.

Entry‑level 0‑2 years of accounting or finance experience desirable; experience in public accounting or working for a public company highly desirable.

Financial services industry knowledge desirable.

Sarbanes‑Oxley 404 or audit experience desirable.

CPA certification or working toward CPA certification preferred.

Summary of Qualifications

Excellent analytical skills and thorough knowledge of accounting concepts to analyze financial reports and forecasts.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Experience leading and motivating a team in a dynamic business environment to successfully achieve results and deliverables.

Ability to solve business problems through proactive identification of issues and subsequent collection, analysis, and interpretation of related data.

Experience supporting senior operating management.

Experience working independently as well as in team environments and integrating activities across multiple functions or divisions.

Ability to effectively manage priorities and projects in a fast‑paced environment.

MS Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).

Knowledge of Oracle or Oracle Cloud a plus.

Knowledge of IT General Computer/Application Controls.

Salary The salary range for this position, if located in NY Metro/NY State, is $65,000 to $72,000. The range will vary for other geographic areas.
