Responsibilities Summary:

The Substance Abuse Counselor provides inpatient treatment for a caseload of incarcerated individuals, conducts substance abuse assessments and evaluations, mental health assessments, development of a individualized substance abuse treatment plans, group therapy, individual therapy, documentation, discharge planning, transition planning and psych‑educational groups using evidenced‑based curriculum.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

The Substance Abuse Counselor facilitates and co‑facilitates didactic educational presentations, group counseling, and individual counseling sessions.

Maintains knowledge of new developments in the field of substance abuse.

Ability to work with other professionals as a team.

The Substance Abuse Counselor completes required testing, assessment, and psychosocial history on incoming residents as required.

Participates in related training for substance abuse.

Ability to meet required timelines.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Minimum Requirements:

Graduated from an accredited college or university with a minimum of a Master’s Degree.

Must possess (LPC), Licensed Professional Counselor or (LCSW) Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or a (PPC) Provisional Professional Counselor, (PCSW) Provisional Clinical Social Worker, or a (LFMT) Licensed Family and Marriage Therapist license.

Working knowledge of substance abuse treatment.

Preference given to experience within a correctional setting and/or Therapeutic Treatment Modality.

Ability to interact in a professional manner in both individual and group counseling settings with residents and peers.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
