Primary Purpose The District Police Officer is responsible for handling law enforcement and police‑related matters at district facilities as outlined in the Texas Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedures, district board policy, management guidelines, departmental rules and regulations, and as directed by the Chief of Police. The Officer works cooperatively with school administration, students, staff members, other district police officers, and officers from all law‑enforcement agencies to maintain positive campus security and a safe and secure campus environment.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED.

Texas Peace Officer License issued by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE).

Valid Texas driver’s license.

General knowledge of criminal investigation, police report writing, and criminal laws.

Ability to exercise good judgment under potentially dangerous conditions.

Training and ability to subdue offenders, including use of firearms and handcuffs.

Bonded as required by Texas Education Code.

Ability to pass required physical, psychological, and drug tests.

Ability to work well with youths and adults.

Availability to work overtime, call‑outs, and all man‑made or natural disasters impacting the district.

Responsibilities

Patrol the district and provide police services to individual facilities, students, and staff.

Operate a district vehicle and patrol school property or assigned area to deter criminal offenses.

Investigate criminal offenses occurring within district jurisdiction or against the district.

Collect evidence and enforce regulations on district school buses.

Respond to burglar and fire alarms, investigate causes, and notify the communications officer.

Enforce all general and criminal laws of Texas within district jurisdiction.

Assist traffic control on streets, at athletic events, school closings, and openings.

Provide crisis response to schools and facilities.

Perform security inspections of buildings and maintain patrol logs.

Assist other law‑enforcement agencies on campus when requested.

Prepare concise written reports in English for use in prosecutions.

Appear in court as a witness when summoned.

Perform other security and courtesy services as directed, maintaining a positive image on campuses.

Be available for overtime and emergency call‑outs.

Conduct surveillance of parking lots, provide traffic control, and enforce parking regulations.

Maintain high visibility on campus and perform constant patrols.

Keep fire zones and bus ramps clear; enforce safe vehicle operation regulations.

Maintain emotional control, handle strenuous walking, standing, climbing, and vehicle operation.

Working Conditions Constitute emotional control under stress, strenuous walking, standing, climbing, ability to operate a motor vehicle, specific hearing and visual requirements, ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts, exposure to adverse and hazardous conditions including violent and armed confrontations, working outdoors in varying climate conditions, driving during off hours, and being on call 24 hours a day.
