PCU RN Job Details – Roanoke, VA Estimated Weekly Pay: $1800 - $1840 Assignment Length: 13 weeks Location: Roanoke, Virginia (Zip: 24014) Start Date: November 17, 2025 End Date: February 16, 2026 Facility Setting: 25-bed Medical Progressive Care Unit (8 South PCU) Shift: 3x12-hour day shifts per week (06:45 – 19:15) Hours per Week: 36 Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule Charting System: Epic (Epic EHR experience required) Floating: Occasional float to other PCU or Med Surg units PCU Registered Nurse Qualifications Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or compact state Minimum 1 year of recent PCU or Stepdown RN experience BLS (AHA) and ACLS certifications required NIHSS certification preferred Proficiency with Epic electronic health record (EHR) system Skills in telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, rapid response/code teams, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, cardiac drips (no titration), oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management COVID-19 and Flu vaccines required (medical/religious exemptions considered) Ability to work at least one holiday during the assignment (two during winter holidays) PCU RN Responsibilities Deliver high-quality nursing care to acutely and chronically ill adult and geriatric patients with complex medical diagnoses Monitor and interpret telemetry, manage dysrhythmias, and respond to rapid response/code situations Administer medications, including IV drips (Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, etc.) Provide care for patients with tracheostomies, chest tubes, and PICC lines Collaborate with internal medicine physicians, residents, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams (PT, RT, pharmacy, social services, etc.) Float to other Progressive Care or Medical Surgical units as needed Document patient care accurately and efficiently using Epic EHR Maintain infection control and isolation precautions Participate in unit-based self-scheduling and work required weekend and holiday shifts Ready to take the next step in your nursing career?
