Here, you will work alongside passionate physicians, nurses and other caregivers in a family‑oriented, supportive environment.
A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM or 4:00 AM – 12:30 PM. Martin South Hospital will be the primary work location, but floating to other sites within St. Lucie County may be required as needed.
Responsibilities
- Collect blood, process specimens and perform reference laboratory processing in laboratory testing.
- Perform blood‑collection‑related techniques from patients of all age groups, such as blood glucose tolerance tests and blood cultures.
- Prepare samples for testing and manage specimens in the laboratory information system.
- Prepare and ship reference laboratory specimens and resolve pending specimens and pending transports.
- Monitor test ordering patients and requisitions to ensure compliance with outpatient laboratory testing.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of college or equivalent.
- Six months of experience in phlebotomy and laboratory processing.

Physical Requirements
- Position is primarily mobile.
- Average lifting 10 pounds with occasional carrying of objects up to 20 pounds.
- Sitting for short periods of time, filing, moving records, laboratory supplies, performing venipuncture, and moving charts also requires bending and stooping.
- Communication by means of spoken, written and typed word is required.
- Work requires finger dexterity and eye‑hand coordination to operate a computer keyboard at a moderate skill level.
- Mental demands: ability to work at a fast pace, prioritize multiple assignments, respond to numerous requests, resolve conflicts among staff and work collaboratively with department director, physicians and other members of the healthcare team; ensure operational efficiency; problem‑solve and make decisions; exercise self‑control and tolerate stress when dealing with multiple requests or conflicting demands.
- Special demands: use of personal protective equipment is required as there is a potential for exposure to biohazardous or infectious agents when drawing and processing specimens.
- Confidentiality: access to the entire medical record for purpose of charting, correcting laboratory results and reviewing physician orders. Access is limited to the amount reasonably necessary to achieve the purpose of the laboratory testing request. Disclosure or requests that occur on a routine or recurring basis include patient demographics, condition and laboratory results.
