Administrative Assistant (Part-Time, 20 Hours/Week)
About Us
The Dharma Bum Temple is a nonprofit Buddhist community located in San Diego dedicated to making Buddhist teachings accessible to all. Through meditation classes, educational programs, and community service, we strive to create a compassionate, inclusive, and supportive environment for people from all walks of life.
We are currently seeking a Part-Time Administrative Assistant to join our team. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone who is detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and inspired by the chance to contribute to meaningful community work.
Position Summary
The Administrative Assistant will provide general administrative and communication support to ensure smooth day-to-day operations at the temple. This includes supporting various programs, managing newsletters, updating social media and website content, assisting with event promotions, and other administrative tasks. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a mission-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative Support
- Assist with data entry, file organization, and other administrative tasks as assigned.
- Provide general office support to staff and volunteers.
- Help with donor management.
- Respond to emails in a timely manner.
Communications & Marketing
- Manage the Dharma Bum Temple newsletter using Constant Contact.
- Gather and edit content updates from temple programs and events.
- Post daily announcements on social media and the temple website.
- Ensure consistent and timely communication across all digital platforms.
Website & Content Management
- Maintain and update the temple’s website, photo galleries, and event calendar.
- Ensure all program information is accurate and visually engaging.
Event Support
- Create and manage event listings and promotional materials.
- Coordinate online event visibility and assist with on-site logistics when needed.
Qualifications
- At least 1–2 years of administrative or communications experience preferred.
- Proficiency with social media platforms and basic website editing tools.
- Experience with email marketing tools (Constant Contact, Mailchimp, etc.).
- Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently.
- Commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and teamwork.
- Interest in or respect for Buddhist values and mindfulness practices is a plus.
Work Schedule & Compensation
- Part-time Schedule: 20 hours per week / Tuesday-Friday (12pm-5pm)
- Compensation: $20–$25 per hour (commensurate with experience).
- Location: On Site at Dharma Bum Temple
