Position Summary
The Heavy Equipment Operator will operate a range of heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, front-end loaders, motor graders, cranes, forklifts, low-boy trailers, backhoes, and other heavy machinery in accordance with site/contract specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform pre-start inspections, routine equipment checks, and report equipment deficiencies or required repairs to maintenance teams.
- Load and unload equipment, containers, materials and stock sets onto trucks, trailers, rail cars or ships in a safe and efficient manner; secure loads appropriately.
- Move equipment and materials within the facility or to/from deployment/transport staging areas.
- Operate equipment in non-climate-controlled environments, outdoor/indoor spaces, and possibly shipboard environments.
- Adhere to all safety, environmental, and operational policies-including site, government, and company standards-to prevent accidents and incidents (part of the Zero Harm culture).
- Maintain accurate records/logs of equipment usage, hours, inspections, and any incidents or maintenance needs.
- Collaborate with warehouse, logistics and transport teams to coordinate equipment staging, readiness, and movement in accordance with production/mission schedules.
- Assist in training or mentoring less-experienced equipment operators or laborers if applicable.
- May be required to deploy or operate aboard ship/sea environments as part of company mission readiness.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 2-4 years of hands-on experience operating heavy equipment (construction, military, logistics operations preferred).
- Understanding of safe operation practices for heavy equipment, load securing, and material handling.
- Ability to work in non-climate-controlled environments; to stand, walk, bend, climb, lift occasionally, and operate equipment for extended periods.
- Good communication skills, ability to follow written and verbal instructions, safety rules and maintenance protocols.
- U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) and site/shipboard access.
- Valid state driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in military logistics, pre-positioned stock operations, or defense contractor environment.
- Certification in heavy equipment operation or specific machines (crane operator license, forklift certification, etc.).
- Experience in shipboard operations, loading/unloading, or railroad/flatbed equipment movement.
- Familiarity with load securing, transport regulations, and handling of large equipment sets (e.g., via low-boys or flatbeds).
- Commitment to the "Zero Harm" safety/environment culture and ability to work in team-oriented, mission-driven environment.
Education Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
Physical Requirements
- May be required to stand for several hours, walk across rugged terrain, climb into/out of equipment, bend, reach, lift up to ~35-50 lbs periodically, and perform physically demanding work.
- Work may take place indoors, outdoors, on land site or shipboard, in non-climate-controlled settings, with exposure to noise, dust, vibration, and equipment hazards.
- May require wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as steel-toed boots, hard hats, hearing/eye protection, high-visibility gear.
