POSITION: Accounting Manager
REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer
STATUS: Salary – Exempt – Full-Time

Overview: The Accounting Manager supports the financial operations of the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida by leading the accounting team, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining compliance with GAAP and nonprofit regulatory requirements, and driving system and process improvements. This role is critical to sustaining financial integrity, supporting program delivery, and enabling strategic growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee full accounting lifecycle: accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll allocations, general ledger, fixed assets, and depreciation schedules.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and management reports.
  • Produce internal financial statements (balance sheet, statement of activities, cash flow) and variance analyses (budget vs. actual, prior year) for leadership and/or Board review.
  • Prepare and review the organization’s annual tax/exempt-entity filing, specifically the IRS Form 990 and related disclosures.
  • Coordinate and prepare for external audits: liaise with auditors, compile schedules, and ensure timely resolution of audit queries.
  • Apply fund accounting principles to ensure revenues and expenditures are properly tracked by fund, program, grant, or donor restriction.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial monitoring of grants and other restricted funds. Collaborate with program teams to align budgets, track spending, and ensure compliance with funder requirements.
  • Maintain and enforce internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures in line with nonprofit operations and fund restrictions.
  • Lead or significantly contribute to the implementation, integration, and optimization of accounting/ERP platforms (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Workday) to enhance automation, control, and reporting capability.
  • Recommend and drive process improvements to streamline workflows, strengthen internal controls, and improve reporting timeliness and accuracy.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff to foster high performance, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Partner with senior leadership and cross-functional peers (Programs, Development, Operations) to ensure financial support for organizational strategy and mission delivery.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by the CFO to support the organization’s mission, culture of financial stewardship, and operational integrity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of five (5) years progressive accounting experience, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or lead role, preferably in a nonprofit or fund accounting environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with GAAP, fund accounting practices, and nonprofit reporting requirements (e.g., IRS Form 990, donor/grant restrictions).
  • Strong systems orientation with proven experience in ERP system implementation or upgrades.
  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred).
  • CPA designation or active candidacy (preferred).
  • Nonprofit experience with fund accounting and donor/grant reporting (preferred).
  • Prior ERP implementation or systems transformation experience (preferred).
