Senior Water Resources Engineer A growing environmental engineering and consulting firm is seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Water Resources Engineer to join our team. They are looking for a versatile professional who can lead high-quality projects, mentor staff, and help expand our presence across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, leadership ability, and a commitment to advancing sustainable and resilient water resource solutions.

The Senior Water Resources Engineer will work with a multidisciplinary team on a variety of projects involving stormwater management, stream and shoreline restoration, erosion and sediment control, and hydrologic and hydraulic modeling. This position involves both technical design and management responsibilities, including client coordination, business development, and staff supervision.

Base pay range: $95,000/yr - $150,000/yr

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage complex water resources projects, including scheduling, budgeting, and client coordination.

Oversee project deliverables, quality control, and milestone tracking.

Mentor and supervise junior engineers, supporting technical development and career growth.

Prepare and review technical documents, engineering designs, reports, and permit applications.

Conduct and review hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for storm drain systems, culverts, bridges, and flood studies.

Design best management practices for stormwater systems, stream restoration, shoreline stabilization, and related infrastructure.

Support fieldwork efforts, including site inspections and data collection.

Lead business development activities such as proposal preparation, teaming efforts, and client presentations.

Develop project scopes, schedules, and labor estimates.

Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with project goals and environmental standards.

Represent the company at professional meetings, conferences, and public outreach events.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Coastal Engineering (Master’s preferred).

Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain through reciprocity (Virginia or nearby states preferred).

Minimum 8 years of experience in water resources engineering, including project and client management.

Proven ability to lead teams and deliver projects on time and within budget.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency with design and modeling software such as AutoCAD or MicroStation, and hydraulic/hydrologic tools (e.g., HEC-RAS, TR-55, HEC-HMS).

Experience with drainage system design, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and flood resiliency planning.

Familiarity with relevant state and local permitting processes.
