Shermco Industries is seeking a highly skilled

Senior Electrical Engineer specializing in Power System Studies

to join our team. This role is responsible for leading, performing, and reviewing complex power system analyses to support reliable, efficient, and safe operation of electrical infrastructure for utility, industrial, and commercial clients. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering with a deep technical focus on power system studies, modeling, and analysis and be in the NJ Area, close to Trenton.

Responsibilities

Lead and execute detailed power system studies including, but not limited to:

Load flow (power flow) analysis

Short‑circuit analysis

Arc flash hazard analysis (IEEE 1584 methodology)

Transient stability and motor starting analysis (as applicable)

Develop electrical models using software such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, or similar platforms.

Review and approve study reports, models, and technical recommendations to ensure accuracy and compliance with industry standards.

Provide engineering support for electrical system design and operation based on study outcomes.

Recommend improvements to system design, protection schemes, and operational practices based on study results.

Project Management

Serve as the technical lead on assigned projects, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget alignment.

Coordinate with internal project teams, clients, and stakeholders to define study requirements and deliverables.

Develop and manage project schedules and provide regular status updates.

Ensure all deliverables meet client expectations and applicable standards (e.g., IEEE, NEC, NESC, NFPA 70E).

Client Engagement

Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients, providing expert recommendations for system improvements and risk mitigation.

Present technical findings and recommendations to both technical and non‑technical audiences.

Support proposal development, scope definition, and cost estimation for power system study projects.

Compliance & Safety

Ensure that all work complies with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and safety practices.

Stay current with emerging standards, technologies, and best practices in power system analysis.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution (Master’s degree preferred).

10+ years of experience

performing and leading electrical power system studies.

Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; ability to obtain PE license required.

Expert knowledge of power system analysis software such as ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower, ASPEN, or other power system modeling software.

Strong understanding of electrical system design, protection schemes, and utility/industrial electrical infrastructure.

In‑depth knowledge of applicable standards including IEEE, NEC, NFPA 70E, NESC, and utility interconnection requirements.

Must have knowledge of low, medium and high‑voltage up to 500 kV.

Proven ability to review, interpret, and create one‑line diagrams, schematics, and system models.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts clearly.

Strong organizational, project management, and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.

Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems emphasis).

Experience working with utilities, large industrial facilities, or electrical service providers.

Familiarity with transient stability, dynamic modeling, or renewable energy integration studies.

Field experience with system commissioning, troubleshooting, or testing is a plus.

Office‑based with occasional site visits to client facilities.

Travel up to 20% may be required based on project needs.

Must be able to access and work safely in electrical equipment rooms, substations, and industrial environments.
