We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Packaging Engineer with extensive experience in packaging design and testing. This high-level technical position requires the application of advanced technical knowledge to independently lead the design of complex packaging systems in support of various business activities, including new product development, line extensions, and manufacturing maintenance.

Summary/Purpose of Position The Staff Packaging Engineer will be responsible for leading the design and commercialization of new packaging systems and improvements to existing packaging. This role includes project leadership, mentorship of junior engineers, and supervision of co-ops.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

New Product and Line Extension Activities:

Concept development

Project planning and scheduling

Design reviews and manufacturability assessments

Test plan development

Prototype packaging/tooling development

Launch and Commercialization:

Concept and development of packaging methods and processes

Coordination of new tooling and equipment

Coordination of labeling

Development and release of all new product and process documentation, including design control

Creation of test protocols and technical reports

Planning and coordination of new component inventory

Qualification and validation of new components, equipment, processes, and operations

Preparation of cost estimates for packaging

Evaluation and recommendation of new materials

Transfer to Manufacturing:

Development and management of packaging requirements for the transfer plan

Development and release of packaging documentation

Creation of test protocols and technical reports

Manufacturing Support:

Assessment and action plan development to address packaging-related manufacturing issues

Support of cost improvement programs and manufacturing improvement plans related to packaging

Audit support

Technical Leadership:

Lead technical initiatives, CAPA resolutions, and compliance projects

Support due diligence teams for new business development and acquisition projects

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills Required:

Education:

B.S. degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science, Life Sciences, or other Engineering discipline with a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience

M.S. degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science, Life Sciences, or other Engineering discipline with a minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience

Experience:

Preferred experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industries

Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously

High level of written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to independently analyze and write technical reports

Knowledge of FDA requirements and functional requirements for sterile, non-sterile, disposable, and reusable devices

Ability to conceptualize ideas, motivate and focus teams, and drive projects to completion on time and within budget

Broad knowledge of materials used in primary and secondary packaging, packaging methods, and equipment

Working knowledge of package test methods, process validation, bar coding, and international standards

Willingness to travel as needed to support projects
