What You’ll Do The General Liability Claims Adjuster is responsible for managing all aspects of the claims process—from initial investigation through final resolution—while ensuring each claim is handled promptly, thoroughly, and fairly. You will evaluate and resolve claims arising from bodily injury, property damage, premises liability, and products/completed operations. The role involves a moderate to complex caseload, maintaining compliance with policy provisions and legal standards, and collaborating with insureds, claimants, attorneys, and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Review Claim Documentation: Evaluate photos, estimates, incident reports, contracts, and other materials submitted by insureds, claimants, or field adjusters.

Investigate Liability: Conduct thorough investigations by obtaining statements, reviewing police and incident reports, and analyzing evidence.

Manage the Claims Process: Handle claims from initial notice through final resolution, ensuring timely action, accurate documentation, and adherence to company standards.

Negotiate Settlements: Engage with insureds, claimants, and vendors to negotiate equitable and timely settlements within assigned authority levels.

Handle Litigated Claims: Collaborate with defense counsel to manage litigation, review pleadings and discovery, monitor case progress, and participate in mediations or settlement discussions.

Provide Customer Service: Act as the primary point of contact for policyholders and claimants, delivering clear communication and responsive support.

Maintain File Documentation: Accurately record all investigations, communications, analyses, and decisions in compliance with company procedures.

Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Follow all company policies, state regulations, and industry standards throughout the claims handling process.

Interpret Coverage: Analyze and apply policy language, endorsements, and exclusions to determine coverage and resolve claims.

Skills and Qualifications

Licensure: Independent Adjustor License in home state or a designated state (Texas or California preferred).

Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum 5 years of general liability claim handling, with preference for experience in habitational, premises, or commercial liability. Prior litigated claims experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Strong understanding of general liability coverage forms and legal liability principles.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including drafting coverage letters and reports.

Strong negotiation, analytical, and decision‑making skills.

Proficiency with claim management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to manage a diverse workload, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.

High degree of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.

Work Environment The General Liability Adjuster works primarily in an office setting, handling claims remotely with occasional field visits. The role is remote unless the candidate is within a reasonable commute of one of our offices (Chicago, Austin, Denver, Roseville). Hybrid (3 days in office, typically Tuesday‑Thursday) is offered for candidates near a hub.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work at a desk for extended periods.

Minimal travel may be required for training or occasional meetings.

Salary range: $110,000 – $135,000, plus a target 5% annual bonus.
