Responsibilities
Lead projects to study, design, and scale up pyrometallurgical processes from laboratory to commercial scale.
Plan, manage, and oversee large-scale thermal processing trials, including equipment selection and vendor collaboration.
Develop and apply mass and energy balance models for process optimization using simulation tools.
Specify, commission, and troubleshoot new high‑temperature processing equipment.
Collect, synthesize, and present experimental data to guide engineering and business decisions.
Maintain a strong safety culture, conducting safety assessments for new equipment and operations.
Ensure compliance with all workplace health and safety policies and lead best practices in process engineering.
Support operational excellence by assisting with other duties and continuous improvement projects as assigned.
Must-Have Skills
PhD in Chemical Engineering, Mining/Metallurgical Engineering, or Chemistry with minimum 3 years relevant experience; or Master’s degree with 6 years; or Bachelor’s degree with 8 years.
Hands‑on expertise in scaling up pyrometallurgical processes (lab to pilot/production), covering mass & energy balances, equipment selection, and problem solving in kinetics, thermodynamics, solids handling, heat transfer, and gas flow.
Proficient with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen, COMSOL) for system modeling and design.
Direct experience managing external vendors for equipment sourcing, selection, and technical service.
Strong project management skills in a fast‑paced, evolving manufacturing environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication, capable of delivering technical results to diverse audiences.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to drive technology scale‑up and operational success.
Nice-to-Have Skills
Experience managing complex contract research or manufacturing with third‑party providers.
Expertise in sampling and analysis of solid feeds and metallurgical products.
Familiarity with direct‑reduced iron (DRI) technologies and emerging clean metal processes.
Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices for handling flammable and explosive gases.
Additional certifications or experience in process optimization or advanced metallurgical analysis.
