Chief of Staff
Primary Purpose
The Chief of Staff serves as a key strategic partner to the Superintendent by coordinating district leadership functions, ensuring effective communication and strategic alignment across departments, and facilitating the implementation of district priorities. This role provides executive‑level leadership, directs key operational and strategic initiatives, and serves as a senior advisor to the Superintendent and Cabinet to ensure efficient execution of the district’s mission and goals.

Education/Certification
Master’s degree in education, Public Administration, Organizational Leadership, or related field required.
Valid Texas Mid‑Management/Principal Certification or Superintendent Certification preferred.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years successful district‑level leadership experience required; experience in a large, complex public school district preferred.
Demonstrated experience supervising administrators and leading cross‑functional teams.
Evidence of strategic planning, organizational leadership, and effective project management.
Strong background in communication, stakeholder engagement, and executive‑level decision‑making.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to work effectively with executive leadership, Board members, parents, staff, and community.
Exceptional communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with capacity for strategic thought and execution.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Coordination
Serve as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to the Superintendent in aligning district initiatives, priorities, and organizational goals.
Coordinate Cabinet‑level initiatives and ensure timely communication, collaboration, and follow‑through across departments.
Lead and support strategic planning processes, organizational improvement efforts, and cross‑functional workgroups.
Facilitate communication and problem‑solving between district leadership, campuses, Board of Trustees, and community partners as appropriate.
Executive Oversight & Department Leadership
Provide direct supervision, leadership, and support to assigned department heads to ensure operational excellence and alignment with district priorities.
Monitor departmental goals, performance metrics, and service outcomes, ensuring continuous improvement and adherence to district policies.
Oversee execution of major districtwide functions including athletics, community programming, communication and engagement, centralized facilities operations (Berry Center, Mark Henry Building, and Visual and Performing Arts Center), research and planning, elections, outside facilities use, Instructional Materials Allotment, and district records management.
Lead long‑range strategic planning for facilities, community partnerships, communications, governmental relations, and student/community programming.
Governmental Relations & Advocacy
Direct and coordinate the district’s governmental relations efforts at the local, state, and federal levels.
Advise the Superintendent and Board of Trustees on legislative issues impacting public education and the district’s operations.
Develop and maintain productive relationships with elected officials, government agencies, and education organizations.
Coordinate legislative advocacy efforts, testimony preparation, and policy briefings in alignment with district priorities.
Monitor proposed legislation, regulations, and policy changes and communicate relevant updates to district leadership.
Communication & Board/Superintendent Support
Assist the Superintendent in preparing Board agenda items, presentations, reports, and district communications.
Represent the Superintendent at meetings, community events, and work sessions as needed.
Coordinate communications and engagement strategies to support public trust, transparency, and responsive customer service across the district.
Ensure timely, accurate communication and alignment from the Superintendent’s Cabinet to campuses and staff.
Operational Administration
Oversee organizational project management for district initiatives and ensure projects are completed within established timelines.
Develop and maintain effective administrative systems and workflows across assigned departments.
Facilitate resolution of high‑level issues and concerns brought to the Superintendent’s Office.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
Terms Of Employment Probationary/Term Contract: 250 days
Salary (EL‑2) Salary Range (based on experience) as set by the Board of Trustees
Working Conditions Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent prolonged and irregular hours. Frequent districtwide and occasional overnight travel. Frequent outdoor exposure.
