Semmes, Bowen & Semmes have an immediate opening for a Senior Staff Accountant. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting day‑to‑day accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliation, financial reporting, and month‑end close processes. Experience working in a law firm is a plus. Semmes is a paperless office environment.
We offer a flexible work environment with options for hybrid work. This position will require you to be in the office 5 days per week for the first 90‑180 days. After 3‑6 months of employment, we will consider remote work 1‑2 days per week based on performance. Schedule Monday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm.
Compensation: $70,000 to $90,000 annually (salary exempt position) Responsibilities and Qualifications
Excellent communication and software skills (e.g., MS Excel, Word, Outlook).
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to support the Firm’s financial health.
Proficient knowledge of accounting software and proven GAAP knowledge.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
Law firm or professional service experience a plus.
2+ years of accounting experience.
Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring accurate financial reporting.
Perform account analysis and reconciliation, including bank statements and general ledger accounts on a regular basis.
Assist with month‑end and year‑end close processes, including accruals and adjustments.
Maintain and update financial records in compliance with Firm policies and accounting standards.
Support the preparation of internal and external financial reports.
Collaborate with other departments to gather financial data and resolve discrepancies.
Handle accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash receipts transactions.
Reconcile the Firm’s credit card transactions for posting to the general ledger.
