Director of Board Relations and Executive Strategy

Status: Full-Time (40 hours/week)

Position Summary The Director of Board Relations & Executive Strategy is a senior, non-managerial role that ensures alignment between executive operations, board governance, and organizational strategy while upholding the highest standards of accountability, transparency, and compliance under Florida law. Operating within a quasi-governmental framework, this position plays a critical role in coordinating governance activities, managing high-priority initiatives, and maintaining clear, consistent communication between the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Board of Directors, and Senior leadership team. The role requires strong judgment, discretion, and a commitment to fairness, accuracy, and nonpartisan professionalism in all matters of governance and public service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaborate with the CEO and leadership team to plan, coordinate, and execute strategic initiatives that advance organizational priorities and operational effectiveness.

Lead and coordinate cross-functional projects, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and documentation are completed with precision.

Evaluate and enhance executive workflows, communication systems, and internal processes to improve efficiency, transparency, and accountability.

Prepare high-level reports, presentations, and briefing materials for the CEO, Board of Directors, and external stakeholders.

Facilitate communication and alignment among leadership teams to ensure operational and strategic goals are met consistently.

Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors, fostering effective communication, coordination, and professional relationships.

Ensure all board and committee activities comply with Florida’s Government in the Sunshine Law, Public Records Act, and organizational bylaws.

Manage all aspects of board and committee meetings, including scheduling, agenda development, packet preparation, and minute-taking in accordance with Robert’s Rules of Order.

Maintain accurate and accessible Board of Directors records, governance documents, and official communications to ensure compliance with statutory and organizational requirements.

Support board member onboarding, training, and evaluation processes to strengthen governance capacity and effectiveness.

Qualifications Education : Bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership, Public Administration, Business, Communications, or related field.

Minimum 5–7 years of experience supporting executive leadership, a governing board, or senior officials in a quasi-governmental or nonprofit organization.

Direct experience applying Florida’s Sunshine Law and Public Records Act.

Working knowledge of Robert’s Rules of Order and formal meeting procedures.

Strong organizational and project management skills, with exceptional attention to detail.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of preparing accurate and professional documentation.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and modern document management platforms.

Experience : Minimum seven years in nonprofit, governmental or publicly funded organizations and minimum five years in governance responsibilities. Robert’s Rules trained or certified preferred. Project Management Professional (PMP) designation, certification or equivalent experience preferred.

Other Requirements : Valid Florida driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to pass a Level II background screening.

Work Environment

Work location varies based on the needs of the organization and may include a combination of office, community, and hybrid settings.

Occasional travel within Sarasota County for community events, meetings, trainings, or evening/weekend activities.

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds for event materials.

Must have reliable transportation and a valid Florida Driver’s License.
