Job Summary
Instructional Faculty – Temporary/Lecturer in the Department of Justice Studies, San José State University (Job No. 533004). This position is part of the Department’s commitment to interdisciplinary inquiry into justice, social justice, and human rights.
The Department of Justice Studies was founded as a Police School in 1930. Over time it has offered degrees in Justice Studies, Concentrations in Criminology, Forensic Science with Concentrations in Chemistry, Biology, and Digital Evidence, and a range of minors. At the graduate level, it offers an MS in Justice Studies and an online MS in Criminology with a Concentration in Global Criminology. The department is located at 524 MacQuarrie Hall, https://www.sjsu.edu/justicestudies/.
Responsibilities
Demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity, including inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
Organize and deliver all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester or term in the assigned mode (asynchronous, synchronous, bi‑chronous, in‑person, or hybrid).
Qualifications
Entry‑level lecturer with a Master’s degree or equivalent professional expertise. Appointment without a qualifying degree may be approved with faculty services authorization.
Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population, gained through cross‑cultural experience, training, teaching, or comparable work.
Campus Security Authority Faculty serving as a Campus Security Authority will be subject to ongoing review for CSA designation. Required reporting of Clery incidents and completion of Clery Act training are directed by the University Clery Director (clerycompliance@sjsu.edu).
Compensation
L‑A / Range 2: $2,279 per WTU
L‑B / Range 3: $2,497 per WTU
L‑C / Range 4: $3,146 per WTU
L‑D / Range 5: $3,977 per WTU
