Assistant Director, Advising & Experiential Learning

Purpose of Position
The Assistant Director of Advising & Experiential Learning supports student success and retention within the College of Informatics by integrating academic advising and career development initiatives. The person in this position serves as the primary liaison for experiential learning, connecting COI students with campus and community partners to expand internship, co‑op, and applied learning opportunities.
Primary Responsibilities
Responsible for COI 396 experience requests via Handshake
Responsible for coordinating INF 201: Foundations of Informatics Professionals (1 credit hour)
Recruit, train, and supervise student peer coaches who manage the iSSAC front desk
Oversee COI undergraduate graduation checkout process, including timeline development and student communication, and serve as liaison to the Office of the Registrar
Develop and maintain the COI internship website
Advise a caseload of students to meet the unit's needs
Establish effective communication channels with COI students about internships, co‑ops, and other experiential opportunities
Collaborate with COI schools, iSSAC, FY SSH, and Career Services to:
Increase student participation in co‑ops and internships
Track co‑ops/internships at the college level
Build a culture around the value of experiential learning
Improve employer satisfaction with COI partnerships
Maximize value of experiential programs for students
Grow and lead professional development opportunities for COI students that enhance career readiness and complement academic learning
Serve as the "spoke" representative for the College of Informatics in the Norse Network Hub "hub‑spoke" model
Support existing internship fairs hosted by the college and university
Complete all CPT letter requests
Serve on department, division, and university committees supporting applied student experiences
Qualifications Master's Degree - A variety of academic programs could serve as appropriate training, including but not limited to education, higher education, management, statistics and counseling. Detailed working experience with Qualtrics or similar survey program, and other innovative data gathering techniques/software is needed to support data informed decision making. Working with student information systems, SAP, Navigate, Slate, and Canvas are needed. Any candidate chosen for this position will be required to undergo a pre‑employment criminal background check as mandated by state law.
